I hope this turns out to be the case.
I haven’t seen anything to suggest that Havens is ready to be the Mets 2011 2B but if he’s healthy it would be nice to have him in the mix and then who knows…maybe he just blows the competition away in ST.

I hope he will be fine too. My big fear is that they rest/rehab it, and get to ST and find out he needs it after all and he misses the year. But, given how serious it can be to have back surgery, probably better to play it safe.
And Grave, I bet that if he had not pulled the oblique, based on how he was mashing before that, Havens would have gotten all the PT that went to tejada late in the year.
So, I am happy to invite Havens to my ST 2B free for all death cage match (many enter, only 1 leaves alive!)

I wonder what kind of back issues he has. If it’s anything other than strained muscles, it could be something that plagues him his whole life. He’s so young to be diagnosed with back troubles…

I hope Havens becomes a serious contender for next year’s 2B spot.. kinda like what Ike did this season. Given that 2B market is not all that great and the Mets are still going to pay for Castillo’s salary, cheap, young 2B that can hit.

Did you read where Wogan talks about Valdespin?
“On Valdespin (.272, 6 HR, 41 RBIs, 17 steals between St. Lucie and Binghamton): “He’s out there as a priority second baseman, which by the league definition means he’ll get four days a week at second. If he needed to play shortstop, he could. But I believe there are a few other shortstops on that team, so it’s not a concern for us. The athleticism, the speed, really the tools that he has — he shows some power, he shows the ability to hit the ball hard — it’s more a matter of refining his game, which is why we wanted him to go to the Fall League. And then I believe he’ll hopefully fully get an opportunity to play a little bit again in winter ball [in the Dominican Republic]. The more he can play the better. He was with Licey, and as far as I know he’s back with Licey again. They granted permission for him to play in the Fall League even though he’s on the primary reserve list. He’ll return down to them. And if they have the opportunity for him to play down there, then he’ll get to go back. We’d love it if he played down there again.”
Looks like they really want to push him along possibly to be another consideration next season at 2b for Mets.
