Got nothing for you today so I thought you might be interested to know that Queens native and coveted GM Jon Daniels, currently of the ALCS combatant Texas Rangers, will be on with Mike Francesa this afternoon. You can listen here.
Meanwhile please enjoy this 1986 Keith Hernandez baseball card.

wanna bet that Fatso’s first question (well, comment) will be something along the lines of “are the yankees the best team you have ever faced, and how proud will you be if the team even wins 1 game before Lee just crosses over to the other clubhouse for his uniform fitting”?

That’s more like Michael Kay type of question.

MF: Have the Mets contacted the Rangers to get permission to speak with you?
JD: There have been various rumors and innuendos but there has been no official contact.
MF: If they contacted you would you interview?
JD: That shouldn’t be the focus at this time I’m not comfortable making any comment on that. I’m just trying to win 8 games with the Rangers at this time.
Those are not exact quotes. Daniels did acknowledge that he has one year left on his contract while admitting that the “new-ownership out-clause” does exist and he is legally allowed to leave if he chooses.
He described the rumors and innuendos about the Mets interest as “flattering.”

well, based on the way he handled that part of the interview, he is already more qualized than anyone else in the FO to speak with the media.

Yeah. I haven’t heard an interview with every current GM, but of all those that I have heard interviews with, every single one of them “came off better” in my opinion than our most recent GM.
When Minaya was hired I didn’t care at all about public speaking ability but one of the most important things I took from his tenure is that it’s fairly important. The whole Rubin/Bernazard thing was the flash point but basically every quote, when listened to in hindsight, makes me shiver or shake my head.

Man.. I know he is being professional and all, but wouldn’t you just love to be the GM of the team you rooted for all of your childhood? It’s like every man’s dream job. I think Mets GM job is a runaway first on my fantasy list.
