It’s a done deal. Look for the Mets to deny, deny, deny for now. The league would be VERY VERY unhappy if anything overshadows the WS. Heyman is reporting it with absolute certainty.
I think leaks are everywhere in the Yankees organization as well. I though Cashman put it pretty well during his interview with MF. He said something like
‘We do not have discussions on organizational decisions until we are ready to make official announcements, just because there are so many leaks through the media outlets’
I thought that was a pretty smart business tactic in minimizing rumors and making quick decisions.
The league will likely allow an announcement on Friday as the next possible day wouldn’t until November 5th. The league also knows that the Mets have a deadline with Takahashi (he must be signed by Sunday night by Mid-night) or he won’t be a Met in 2011 so getting Sandy in here will help (Ricco is likely already handling this however)
I understand the reasons for the moratorium but I agree that allowing them to officially do it on Friday makes sense since it’s an off day and thus the announcement keeps “new” baseball news going.
Personally though I think they should have announced it officially tonight. Unless Alderson left town just have a quick press conference with him, make tonight’s highlight shows and tomorrow’s papers and be done with it. Let him get to work.
just because they aren’t supposed to announce it, doesn’t mean that he can’t come in and get to work. Not that it matters, since the news is already out, so if anything, an “official” announcement will actually calm things down news wise!

It’s just don’t waste outs. It’s just don’t have the first guy get on base in the ballgame and the second guy in the ballgame bunt him. That’s just wasting.
I really wonder how much of that was Castillo doing rather than Jerry. It was pretty clear that Jerry did not like Castillo and there were several instances where Jerry actually came out and said it was Castillo doing the bunting.
From Castillo’s perspective, sac bunt won’t count against BA and it’s better than GIDP or K or pop-up.
As jerry had Pagan and others do it as well, i’m sure it was both. It was one of the reasons i wasn’t sure Castillo was ever a good fit for the team, though I thought his patient OBP approach did have value on an otherwise pretty aggressive team and felt he’d have been better in front of Reyes where he could work counts and challenge pitchers to throw strikes, setting it up for Reyes to pounce.

One of the reasons I use Firefox. It includes spell check for posting responses on blogs, unlike I.E.
This certainly brings cause for optimism, if for no other reason than the fact that we could expect to see changes in the Mets’ philosophy. More importantly, it would appear that there will be an actual philosophy while under Omar we heard talk about building around pitching and defense and young athletic players but then saw Dan Murphy playing LF, Luis Castillo re-signed (no less) to play 2b and experienced no upgrades to a mediocre starting rotation.
By the way, was this Rubin providing a very interesting and informative piece on the projected new leader of the Mets or was this another axe grinding…..?
Never know. Or perhaps he has a feeling of accomplishment. Again, it’s ok for us to disagree on this one Wanny. I am not the only one that believes that he really showed himself to have an axe to grind. If you feel differently it’s not a big deal. Especially now.

Just the fact that he posted this interview though makes one think he’s impressed with Sandy as new GM. Rubin didn’t go out of his way to find a piece on negativity but one that would imply there is much cause for optimism with this hiring.
In fact, scanning many articles since last night, I’ve yet to find one that thinks this is a mistake.
I have come across about 20% of Met fans though who don’t like this selection.
Just goes to prove that you can’t please all of the people all of the time.
I’ve yet to figure out though why Sandy even wanted this job. I’d have to assume he’s done the GM thing, he moved on to an MLB exec job and this would almost be like a step backwards.
Maybe he’s tired of waiting for Selig to step down and in the meantime, he’s really looking forward to the challenge of turning this franchise around. Kind of strange though, IMO, that he’d want to even try at this point in his career.
I won’t look a gift horse in the mouth though. The more I read about him, the more I’m thinking he just might be able to do it.
