   Interesting note in that about how Alderson was largely responsible for the Padres opening a Dominican Academy and how the team made a bunch of “high profile international signings” soon after that. Sounds eerily familiar.

   Just did a very unscientific search of the Padres 25 man roster and found zero players who were international signings during Alderson’s tenure although to be fair they’re probably all still in their late teens or very early 20′s since he didn’t take over until 2005.

         That was a humorous exchange.

         Not that the Wilpons have been operating at ludicrous speed on this GM search by any means but I suppose it’s not completely outside the realm of possibility that, since their 2nd interviews are now wrapped up (unless Alderson is still in there), they might announce something today.

            well, given the importance of the task, it really did not take that long. And considering how little really needed to be done at this point (by the Fo), not like the Mets are starting out behind the pack.

            And given that they discussed long and short term plans with these guys, obviously they must have been studying up on the players in the system. So again, not like they are going to show up the first day completely clueless!

            assuming it is Alderson, hopefully the deal is done by tomorrow, so he can quickly wrap up his current gig and get going on the Mets. Really only decision this week is about Taka, right?

               I can’t find it right now but for some reason I thought Reyes and Takahashi were both “by the end of October” things that needed doing.

               I found this on MMO.

               “Jose Reyes – The Mets have until the end of this month to exercise the $11 million dollar 2011 option on Jose Reyes. Clearly, John Ricco will be handling this and I’m curious to see if Reyes gets a multi-year pact even before a new GM is named.”

               certainly ricco will pick up the option,but absolutely the next GM should be the one to deal with an extension.

               Well if they going to pick up option they sure like waiting to last minute to do so.
