Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork reports that Arn Tellem, the new agent for Hisanori Takahashi said “We are in discussions with the Mets to extend the negotiating deadline with them,“.
Making it more likely that the Mets could work out an agreement to retain Takahashi.

thank makes sense, since the Mets have not announced officially the new GM (an dhe certainly hasn’t really started yet), and Taka jut switched agents.
So probably a lot more likely now that he comes back I would assume.

Yep, probably good for both sides.

I like the versatility and results Hisa supplied so I’m a fan of this news but I wonder how this is allowable.

Well, the contract itself was a special clause, it’s not a MLB rule.
I don’t know specifics, just guessing. Obviously the normal deadline is 7? days after the World Series, but it sounds like Taka negotiated a special early deadline.
Actually, does the not being able to resign your own guys until May still apply normally?

at the time he negotiated this contract, it was actually longer (15 days?). I think the cut to 7 days happened during the season.
Not sure why though he needed any date other than the normal FA one. I guess it gives him a jump on the pack? FWIW..

Maybe it has something to do with deadlines in Japan? i.e. if he didn’t get an offer he could have time to get back there? But maybe now he’s decided to stay in the US anyway? *shrug*

who knows. I thought though when he came over he intended to finish his career here, but options are good.
I wonder what the pay is like over there for a guy like him? Can he make anything close to the equivilant of a million bucks, or whatever he got this season? Nice little retirement plan!
