shouldn’t it be “enter sandman”? Or would that piss off the yankee fans too much?

      1. metsfan4decades

Hey, that was the NY Posts back page headline the other day. Think it read: ‘Enter Sand Man’ (instead of sandman).

Wonder if SNY will be airing this live.

        1. stickguy

it says above that it will be on SNY at 2:00

          1. metsfan4decades

You’re right. Went right by me.

  2. stickguy

Who? you mean the Mets hired a GM, and no one told me?

Anyway, on to the job. Over at MLBTR, they have the official arbitration A/B list out. Pedro is as suspected a B. But, Taka is also listed as an official B.

So even though he becomes a FA, does this mean the Mets can still offer arbitration, and get the pick if he signs elsewhere?

Still will be nice to have him back, but if they get a supplemental pick if he leaves, not quite so sad.

Hopefully Feliciano goes and they get a pick for him. Just get a cheaper loogy, and save a couple million + the pick.

    1. metsfan4decades

Would you take Pedro back for 1-2 years if he would take less money for each year? I’m thinking I would. Something like 2.3 for 2 years.

He’s been healthy since he’s come here in 2002 and still pretty effective against lefties.
I’ve been reading the Philly fans wouldn’t mind picking him up for their BP though.

I won’t be all that upset or surprised though if we don’t sign him.

      1. stickguy

I am somewhat ambivalent to pedro. I like the idea of getting a pick out of him, and really don’t see how paying 3+million for a loogy how was a bit iffy is a good plan. But, if he comes back, not that big of a deal.

I don’t think however that a multi year deal for him makes any sense.

Announcing that you’re going to announce the signing that you leaked to Heyman two days ago, during the second game of the World Series, isn’t any different than just announcing it!

    1. hazmet

Exactly! thank you, it’s so ridiculous.

Also, a late welcome back & congrat’s on the nuptials. It’s been great reading your handywork again.

      1. stickguy

well, everyone knows who it is, but at least this gives a chance to ask questions, and hear what he has to say.

Not that the NY media ever wants to know what is going on or anything…

        1. hazmet

So true. I’m looking forward to see how sharp a distinction/contrast it will be between Omar and Sandy’s handling of the media.

I just had this comic vision of Bernazard hopping on his bicycle in NJ and peddling to Citifield, storming in, ripping his shirt off and challenging Jeff to a steel cage death match.

      2. Ceetar

        Thanks.

I’m hoping for a surprise at the press conference. Actually, maybe the early leaking was to give Rubin time to lobby for a job?

These are the days of our lives…. (cue music and roll credits)

  4. metsfan4decades

I’m reading Alderson got a 4 year deal.

I’m a bit surprised he even wanted 4 years.

    1. hazmet

lol. Sandy’s smart enough to know anything less would not send the sign of stability he’ll want to project. 3 years with an expiring CBA in the middle, had to be at least 4.

      1. stickguy

and nothing to stop him from leaving early if he wants to.

  5. hazmet

Totally random as I just read Cerrone’s excitement tweet but wouldn’t it be funny if Sandy took a dislike to Cerrone’s blog and cut him off. That would be a major chuckle.

    1. stickguy

speaking of the devil, he has a new post up, soliciting for writers (in a sense).

hey, he offers free tickets as an enticement! You just aren’t allowed to express an opinion.

      1. Mr North Jersey

I just saw the post. Modesty is not his strong suit is it? “I’m only half way through reading the roughly 2,500 e-mails that were sent to me”?

OK so you can’t express your opinion and show off your writing but hey you can get occasional tickets.

The thing is people will eat flock to do just that.

        1. Mr North Jersey

LoL I was caught between either saying flock to do just that and eat that shit up and do it.

        2. metsfan4decades

          I just read that post.

He must be seeing the competition out there now on other sites. I noticed that metsblog didn’t post the tweets on Alderson getting the job the other night until the next morning.

        3. kistics

Bet you are one of the 2,500. Just messing with you…

So he posts the job position and then comes out and says that it’ll take forever to go over all your stupid emails, so hang tight… and why can’t you express your opinions or show off your writing? isn’t that the blogs are for?

          1. Ceetar

He’s not actually looking for a writer (that’s the 2500 emails) he’s looking for someone to basically be a google alert on “Mets”

          2. TRS86

Perhaps he should just throw a running script of our post then? If it happens in the Mets world usually we are one of the first to report it. The on the clock authors that he mentions? Yeah we got those. However, ours can one up his. They actually have an opinion and can articulate it.

  6. Mr North Jersey

I feel like I am having deja vu all over again.

The video that I posted way back on Sept 15 about Wally’s managerial style seems to be making another run with 7 Train to Shea posting it and Cerrone picking up the link.

Last time I posted a Wally video courtesy of On The Black which provided the link it too made another run sometime later round the blogosphere.

    1. metsfan4decades

I’m assuming TRDMB is now required daily reading for many.

  7. metsfan4decades

    Watching Game 2.

I thought I was watching the ’09 Mets with Perez pitching in the bottom of that 8th.
2 out no one on and the Rangers give up 7 runs on about 5 walks in a row, a triple and at least a single in there somewhere.

And the Giants are just laughing and laughing in the dugout.

    1. stickguy

for a team that has been derided as being weak offensively, they seem to score plenty of runs.

I think they now have 2 of the top 10 highest scores in an inning in WS history already in this series.

Like they say, that’s why you play the games!

  8. njstuckintx

    Per MLBTR:
Gibbons, Clint Hurdle, DeMarlo Hale, Bob Melvin, Terry Collins, Don Wakamatsu and Chip Hale are candidates to manager the Mets, according to Dan Martin and Joel Sherman of the Post. Joe Torre, Wally Backman and Bobby Valentine are longshots to manage the team.

Chip Hale… I’m intreagued. For the rest, not so much. Not so much at all…

    1. TRS86

Actually after doing some reading I think Clint Hurdle may be exactly what we need.

      1. njstuckintx

        Link?

        1. Prismo

He was reading Pride and Prejudice. His decision that Hurdle is the perfect manager just happened after his book-session.

I thought TRS was more a Sense and Sensibility kinda guy.

          2. Ceetar

            the zombie version is better.

          3. GravediggerHebner

            Yes!

        2. TRS86

Just looking at his bio and what he has done with teams that I believe were in similar situations as the Mets.
