    Actions talk. BS walks.

Hows that for your honeymoon baby!

hey, looks like (based on spyder feed) that Depodesta is coming on board too. Not bad. a GM two-fer!

Your 2 headed beast may be more fact than legend. ;-)

I told you that there was no way a 62YO guy was going to work that hard.

LoL well he has to have a staff regardless of age but how much power will Depodesta have if hired is what will determine if your 2 headed beast is fact or fiction.

yeah, from what I read on him it sounds like he might be a great fit for some targeted functions, but probably not as an autonomous GM.

I love that when asked if anyone is untouchable, he never mentioned specific names. Omar would address specifics all the time. My comfort level with Mr. Alderson is quite high.

    On another note…
The heated argument that started on Joe D’s Metsmerized yesterday (re: The Moneyball mets? I Don’t Think So) has now spilled over to a editorial post on AA (re: Words of WAR).

I just don’t understand the line drawn in the sand.
Why does it have to be either or? Shouldn’t the smart GM be using stats to gather information to aid in making informed decisions? Not JUST using stats and not JUST using guts and/or hope?

This argument across the blogsphere in the past day or so with Met fans seems to have taken a life of it’s own. I wonder if other fan bases are so passionate about this issue on one side or the other?

I guess AA needs MMO to be their rivals like Supeman needed Lex Luthor to be his.

It’s people thinking numbers are the end all to end all. Stat-holes, as I like to call them. Yes, numbers tell a lot, but never the whole story.

But, it’s web hits, so i’m sure in the end, they both win. Or people come to this site to get some sanity and then we win. w00t! ;)

        Ha! Great comment.

When this ‘discussion’ started a couple of years ago, I had no strong opinions one way or another. I do now and not so much b/c of the argument either side has made. It’s more the snobbish or sanctimonious way sites like Fangraphs or AA use to get their point across sometimes. As I said, I certainly hope the GM of my team is using stats but that doesn’t mean I want to spend hours and hours delving into them myself. Because then baseball will become a chore to me, not enjoyment. I’ll let the stat heads do the work and I’ll reap the benefits of looking at the bottom line stats they put together for us. :)

Yeah…I’m showing my age a bit but I just can’t help comparing it to my then teen looking at me like I knew nothing and they had all the answers….
