Mets clearing roster space for the next generation

Rumor has it equipment manager Charlie Samuels was let go due to his suggestion of these as alternate Mets uniforms

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that the Mets have cut Raul Valdes, Eddie Kunz, Jesus Feliciano, Omir Santos and Mike Hessman.  With the claim of Joaquin Arias by the Kansas City Royals earlier today (I’ll pause so you can laugh) the Mets 40 man roster count currently stands at 34.

This is my favorite Star Trek series!

probably some more safe to go.

I assume now that any of these guys can be claimed, but the claiming team would have to put them on their 40 man roster?

not that there is anyone in the bunch that I care about losing.

ALso a good sign that Alderson does not care who you are or where you came from. Omar probably would have offered Arb. to Arias to avaoid losing him.

Makes the frenchy deal though look completely pointless, since the Mets (I don’t think) managed to save any money either.

I don’t think those guys would HAVE to be on the 40 man. That would still be determined by their service time and what type of contract they sign.

    Boooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!……..
As a childhood freak of the original series, Booooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was never a Treky but I liked the newest movie. Wrath of Kahn was good in it’s day. Too young for the TV series and they lost me with the whales.

Understood but they got me back with last yrs movie with
Kirk and Spock as youngsters. Although there were things
even in that movie which didn’t add up.

Of this group, Raul Valdes struck me as somewhat useful but certainly not irreplaceable.

Can’t blame Sandy for cleaning as much house as possible. And given the contract situations, the most likely areas for turnover will be at the bottom of the 25 man roster and the AAAA players on the 40 man.

My guess is that future AAAA 40 man occupiers will at least have specific skill sets, i.e. hard throwers who could put together a good week or two if needed, etc.

I guess I need someone to explain to me how the equipment manager figured into the housekeeping sweep.
Was Charlie part of the problem with giving away trade secrets? Was he fanning some flames? If he was at all involved in any part of a problem I can only say the Mets internal org. is probably worse than we all suspected.

As far as these 6, the only one I thought would even see any big league time on the Mets was Jesus…and probably only if because of an injury.

I still remember Wagner ‘mentoring’ Kunz back in 2008 as heir apparent. That turned out to be a bust, huh?

still waiting for an actualy report on what the deal with Samuels is. Odds are it will get out eventually.

and it did not seem to have anything to do with Alderson, since the initial report said this was done last wednesday, so the old regime (well, whtever was left when omar was gone!) apparently took care of it.

He’s been with the team a long time. He probably makes too much money!

One last toast for Omir and his dominance over Papelbon.

      Here here!!!

just b/c they are off the 40 man doesn’t mean they are gone. they can come back on MILB deals if they arent claimed…

Does waivers even apply to these guys?

      1. GravediggerHebner

        Yes. Well, it already has.

To be removed from the 40 man roster these 6 players were waived. 1, Arias, was claimed by the Royals. The other 5 went unclaimed and are now free agents.

        1. TRS86

OK, I was getting lost in the term “cut”. Usually they say things like waived instead of cut.

          1. GravediggerHebner

Actually I retract my previous statement. The tweet I link to used the term “outrighted” but that gave me spell check issues so I changed it to “cut.”

All I really know for sure is that none of them are on the Mets 40-man roster any longer.

          2. stickguy

and none of them will be missed.
