wait, I thought acouting and palyer development was what riccardi was doing? If not, what the hell is his title/role?

but in any case, should I assume that Sandy, paul and J.P. is potentially smarter and more competent that Omar, Tony, and Jeff (with Wayne K hanging around)?

    3 Kings in Queens!

    1. Mr North Jersey

      Nice!!!

  3. Mr North Jersey

Looks like Aldrson got his fish.

    1. GravediggerHebner

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

      1. Mr North Jersey

Lets hope that analogy serves us as well when it comes to finding good young talent.

  4. Mr North Jersey

    The trinity is complete.

  5. GravediggerHebner

For me this reunion of Alderson, Ricciardi and DePodesta is not quite the Beatles getting back together but perhaps the Police reuniting, or maybe Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey!

Mets lay waste to National League

      Nice Ghidora pic

But oh oh those summer nights.

Will the Mets spend more money in the front office than on the field this offseason?

That said, I’m elated that the Mets now have a vision, presumably a focus and two highly respected talent evaluators to work under a highly respected executive.

I wonder if this leadership troika is part of what sold the Wilpons on Alderson over Byrnes.

Will Ricco be focused on the business end while Depodesta and Ricciardi are picking players?

    1. oleosmirf

thats what it seems like, Ricco is the business savvy one who is going to learn player development aspects from Alderson and co.

  9. Mr North Jersey

Well everyone agreed that it was time for Mets to go in a new direction and a new blood was needed well we are definitely getting it now.

i’m very curious to see what they do this offseason. Im certain Feliciano is gone and even though they wont be spending much additional money on their 25 man roster, i cant see them going with the exact same team in 2011…

      1. wannybackstra

If they continue on with the moneyball theory (which does not mean to not spend money) they will find some players with undervalued skills that they can add for reasonable sums of money.

        1. oleosmirf

exactly and thats what im curious to see. Im hoping alderson can being in some overage prospect (like a Justin Turner type) who winds up being the everyday 2B or maybe a veteran like Skip Schumaker or Jeff Keppinger

    I especially liked this tweet:

DePodesta: “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be a part of what Sandy is trying to build with the Mets.”
    **************************

Tells me Alderson does have a plan, or a philosophy, and is sharing it with potential FO and manger candidates.

I borrowed moneyball from the library. can’t hurt to read it i suppose.

    1. kingman 26

It is an extremely enlightening book.

  12. saltygary

Can any of these guys hit?

    1. wannybackstra

In 150 minor league games, JP Ricciardi hit 188/274/202.

    2. GravediggerHebner

Probably not but once they hire Jose Canseco as manager, steal Mark McGwire for hitting coach, hire Dave Stewart as pitching coach, Rickey Henderson as 1B/baserunning coach, Mark Gallego as 3B/IF coach, Stan Javier as OF/bench coach and Terry Steinbach as bullpen coach that will work itself A’s, I mean out.

      1. saltygary

        Oh Snap!

    3. njstuckintx

I’d be more concerned if they can throw 200+ innings at a 1.04 Whip.

  13. kingman 26

This is really amazing when you consider it from the perspective that all three of these guys obviously are smart and hard-working, and now each guy’s idea will have to go through the other two.

I.e., each one’s bad ideas might never see the light of day.

I am really pretty blown away by the fact that we now have the team being run by Alderson, Ricciardi, AND DePodesta.

Wow. Not even Adam Rubin could find fault with this. Well, real-world fault.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Alderson’s statement of there is no reason why the mets farm system should ever be middle of the pack looks to be something that he is very serious about.

Shit i wish i could time travel and see what 2013 will hold for Mets.

      1. kingman 26

I just really think that having Stick’s 2-headed dream GM now expanded to three—and all three bright, hard-workers—is just amazing.

        Optimism should rule.

I do not see spending increasing in 2011, but I see 2012 as bringing in exciting new players via FA/trades, and 2013? A whole new crop of new and improved Mejias/Ikes/Tholes/FMarts…..with great OBPs!!

And Alderson’s successor will be whoever does a better job of DePodesta and Ricciardi, so they both have even more incentive to work their butts off and succeed.

This is really about the very best solution we could have hoped for.

  14. Mr North Jersey

Well that is one less person Alderson will have to interview this week.

TORONTO — Former Seattle Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu will serve as bench coach to new manager John Farrell as the Toronto Blue Jays filled out their coaching staff Monday.

    1. oleosmirf

not true, he can still leave for a managing position…

      1. Mr North Jersey

how does it look for him to take a job as a bench coach only to leave a few weeks later for a managers job?

        1. GravediggerHebner

I can’t truly answer the “how does it look” question but I can note that Ricciardi came to the Mets after working 1 day for the Red Sox.

As MF4D notes below it looks like he will be at least interviewing anyway.

          1. Mr North Jersey

true i just saw alderson tweet that. i guess it means very little

      2. Mr North Jersey

really he might as well had waited since he had 2 know mets expected to interview him.

    2. kingman 26

Nah, that guy presided over the most disappointing team in the entire game. His minor league record is very mediocre too.

Why in the world would the Mets hire him?

      No chance.

      1. wannybackstra

They threw his name out there thinking Takahashi might sign for the chance to play with his countryman Wakamatsu.

Ok ok ok. That was bad.

    3. metsfan4decades

I’m seeing twitter feed as recent as the last 5 minutes or so that is still reporting he’s going to come in for an interview for manager this week.

  15. kistics

    Billy Beane next?

  16. oleosmirf

    RIP Carlos Beltron
