Since Carlos Beltran did his best Mike Cameron imitation this week, let’s talk about our Center fielder.
Where is Carlos Beltran going to be in 2011, center field for the Mets, traded to another team or playing right field?
Where would you like him to be?

after he runs in from center to catch the final pop-out of the year from Pedroia.

I echo Case’s sentiment – that would be everything.
Where I think he’ll be is CF for a couple of months and then a Red Sawx uniform or the DL. Duda will be in RF, Ellsbury in CF and Pagan will have been packaged with Murphy in a trade this offseason for relief pitching.
I thought I’d throw that last bit in just for the heck of it as every year come midpoint of the season I reflect on how incorrect my hot stove musings from the prior winter were. lol.

Being serious and not ridiculous, I would love to see Beltran play his heart out and be traded mid-season for a couple of valuable prospects.

I would like to see this too, except with the slight adjustment that the team keeps him and makes the WC instead.
but if not, trading him off for prospects at the deadline is fine too.
and if they could trade him in the off season, I can live with that. I also don’t mind the idea of going young (Duda babay!) in RF
and what the hell, a Truner/Murphy platoon at 2B

I am fine giving The Dude a shot in the OF. I also think a Murph/Truner platoon is a nice idea; give Tejada a full year in AAA.
But it seems as though Beltran cannot be traded at this point considering he finished the year on the DL again; I would think he will at least have to show he is healthy in the spring if not put a good 1-2 months behind him next year.
But trading him for prospects is a must if at all possible.
I’d love to see the playoffs as much as anyone, as I am sure you know, but this team just does not have enough. Believe me, if they DO make it, I will be here enthusiastically taking everything you can dish out.
But it ain’t happening just yet. 2012, that’s another story. Hopefully a happy one.

My Pessimistic response: On the DL in June, Done for the year.
My Optimistic response: World Series MVP runner-up (to Murph, obviously)
My Realistic response: Sliding to RF in early June, Moved at the trading deadline as the pitching the Mets have isn’t enough to keep them in it.
Hmm… That’s not a wonderful outlook, is it.

Just generally healthy and performing as near as he can to his best at this stage of his career. That gives the team both a better chance for success on a win-loss basis and the most options as far as what to do with Beltran going forward. That’s what I’d like him to be, himself.
What does my gut say he will be? It tells me he will begin spring training as the team’s CF. Then at some point, worst case still in spring training, best case mid-June his knees will prove to be enough of a detriment that he won’t be an adequate CF, he will miss time dealing with his knees and ultimately finish the season with the Mets as a part time RF because his knees will not allow him to play full time and will also prevent him from being traded for any worthwhile value.

Beltran starts off playing in CF. Beyond that, I really don’t have any idea.
If her remains healthy, having a good year and we’re out of the race, I’m sure they’re going to try and trade him for prospects, or something. Especially because he’s got that no arbitration clause in his contract.
