With so much speculation as to who has an inside track or who’s getting called back or not that these Battle Of The Sources have been playing a part in I wondered what do we know factually about where the Mets stand in regards to the managerial search? Let’s see.
Who has been interviewed?
- Wally Backman
- Terry Collins
- Chip Hale
- DeMarlo Hale
- Clint Hurdle
- Dave Jauss
- Bob Melvin
- Ken Oberkfell
- Jose Oquendo
- Don Wakamatsu
Who has been scheduled for a 2nd interview? No one. Alderson said that he hopes to “begin“ scheduling call-back meetings for this week.
What does Alderson feel are important qualities in a manager? “There’s a value in having done it before,” said Alderson “I don’t think there’s any question about that. But there’s also a value in already being a part of the Mets organization and having a familiarity with players on our Major League roster, having a relationship with members of the existing coaching staff, knowing some of our Minor League coaches and managers and what have you, having been in New York — either living in New York or experiencing the atmosphere here for a year or so.” Also “We have said that managerial experience is important,” Alderson said “But it’s not going to eliminate anybody. There are other criteria that have more or less significance than others.” - Link 1 – Link 2
What does Alderson plan on discussing with those he calls back for 2nd interviews? “We’ll be looking at having more detailed conversations,” Alderson said. “Less about biography and more detailed discussions about approach, style, coaches, things of that sort.” – Link

Facts? Given that we are all dependant on the blabbing head tweeters, and they usually contradict each other (often often themselves, on the same day), I think the only facts are the guys you noted that the Mets have admitted to interview.
Everything else is guesswork or speculation.

Reporting in the blogging world is “Everything is fact, until proven otherwise” vs. the traditional prove that it’s fact and then report.

You nailed the reason for me wanting to do this post.
After spending considerable time discussing with someone that just because you read a writer say “sources say” doesn’t make it so.
The above info are facts because these are all things the Mets have confessed to. Hence the links so you can read for yourself.
None of the above is based in “sources say” or “it is believed”.
The media can be useful don’t get me wrong but when people start getting discouraged because earlier reports are contradicted by later reports and both reports were “according to sources” type to begin with.
Well I figured it’s time to show what is fact.

now that Hurdle is no longer an option, i would have to say my preferred manager as Chip Hale.
