PERFECT. Glad it’s not more than 2 years! Hopefully the Mets don’t give him an early extension like they’ve done far too often in the past.

you wouldn’t give him an extension off a championship?

      1. Prismo

I said early extension! What I meant by that is an extension before he deserves one. Winning a championship obviously deserves one. :)

Thanks, basketball season. Don’t have much time anymore to comment. Still get time to drop by and do some reading.

Hope you liked the infamy column today

Roenicke, Farrell, Quade, Gibson all got 2 years, Rodriguez got a 1 year extension.

Good. Now onto the real biz. Garland, Garza, Balfour… :)

      I want Garza.

Really perfect. As Grave suggested. Collins comes in and whips this sorry lazy crew into shape, goes back to minor league development which is his calling in 2 years, and Backman or Teufel or Hale come in to guide us to the title, when Pelf is winning 20 and Tejada is winning another Gold Glove.

My second choice, but a far better choice than than Hale (right now) or Melvin (ever).

I hope he visits every player and tells them to start working out NOW for a serious boot camp of a spring training.

The days of lazing around the card table are OVER.

Does it concern you at all King, that Collins lost the team and supposedly all control in the clubhouse in Anaheim and maybe in Japan?

I’m willing to give Sandy the benefit of the doubt here that he’s picked the best man for the job, but I’m just a little bit worried. Here’s hoping whatever he did to bring that on in his last two stints won’t be repeated here. –Because we sure need someone at the helm that’s going to bring this team together.

the Collins hiring makes sense. were not gonna be relevant this season but Collins will change the atmosphere in the clubhouse and while it might not lead to the playoffs in either of the two years, it gets us on the right track for 2013. by that time we’ll have a new young core and a much better pipeline of prospects while still playing good, smart and competitive baseball. He might not be the guy who is here when we become contenders but for a rebuilding franchise, he is the right guy for the next two years.

While most fans demand the mets to win now and have zero patience, i understand that it wont happen overnight and that we cant win with this unbalanced of a roster, and such a lack of MLB ready prospects. its gonna be a tough season but Im confident when 2012/13 comes around we will be an 85+ win team again…

    Eh….
That’s my take on the new manager. In Sandy we trust.

Anyone is an improvement over Jerry.

Unlike some, I see the blame for the disappointments more on the
    - construction of the team from the drafting to FA signings to trades
    - players being rushed through the system due to incompetence with the system below
    - poor development, no depth and glaring holes at the major league level (Pelf and Ike come to mind).

May the new era begin – from the bottom on up.

    LGM!

MF said it all for me.

I can’t believe the venom I’m reading across the Mets blogs on the managerial choice. Collins wasn’t my first choice but dang, to come out and say you’re done with this team b/c they hired Collins as manager?

Give him chance. Jeeze, he hasn’t even managed one game yet.

(Obviously this isn’t directed at any of my fellow Met fans here tonight.)

Yeah, the hyperbolic overreactions are humorous. Thankfully I have been away from the internet since mid-afternoon! And am not bothering to go to any other sites.

funny though, many of the same people were just as vehemently anti-melvin. Collins I can almost see (the whole petition issue, and repeatedly quitting when things got difficult). Melvin though was just a nice guy, solid manager, nothing flashy type that I see it hard to get upset over.

Maybe they will be quieted when Backman gets moved up to AA or something? Since I don’t expect collins to be here more than the 2 years, gotta figure they will be grooming the replacement from the beginning! And have a fall back in place, just in case.

I need to call you guys out too (along with the media hacks!) Name names.

Who exactly are the guys that COllins has to whip into shape (implying Paris island D.S. here). Beltran, who is a consumate pro, quite possibly trade, and on his last year? Nah. Wright? nope. Bay? Nope.

a bunch of rookies? Hard to see that being required. K rod? that should go well! Dickey? nope. Pagan, who is working his ass off to try to finally get and keep a starting gig?

If they aren’t the problem (and it wasn’t Jerry), that leaves Pelf (a tremendous goof ball) and Reyes as the only other guys that could need the whipping done.

I still don’t get who the Bonilla, Sabes, Coleman types are on this team.

And if it was Reyes, more than liely ALderson moves him anyway!

I would like nothing better than to see Jose ‘dancing’ again next year. If Jose is dancing, more than likely it’s because we’re winning – consistently.

Met fans are nothing, if not passionate – that’s for sure. Most of us live and die with this team so I have to take the initial, knee jerk reaction of those who HATE it with a grain of salt.

What is annoying to me tonight are some of the beat writers. One in particular, as outlined by his tweet below, usually has the same style in many of his posts as well. Makes me wonder what they’re going to write about if the Mets start winning….

“Mets and Terry Collins working out contract details – still Tuesday expected for official announcement. No word on when he’ll be let go yet. “

      Really – was this necessary?
