      What’s he saying?

      1. rustyjr

he can’t believe the apathy of the callers , and that hhe thinks a 2 year deal is a insult

        1. njstuckintx

So he thinks a 4+ year deal would be better and if Collins blows it 1 year in, he can then rail against the Mets for offering such a long term contract… Houston sports radio sucks, but I don’t miss the Fatman at all.

          1. rustyjr

Well you know the Fatman knows all lol

        2. oleosmirf

he’s right but I think Collins is here to solely to help in the rebuilding process as Sandy deep down knows that we wont be contenders right away which is why i dont think Backman was ever a serious candidate.

          1. njstuckintx

Are you saying Francesa is right that 2 yrs is an insult? It’s not like there are 150 MLB managerial options and that these jobs should come with privileges. Entitlement at it’s best, i guess.

          2. oleosmirf

what Francesa is saying is that given the current roster giving him only 2 years means his chances to win are pretty small and he’s a lame duck manager b/c if they dont make playoffs this season it will be Wally mania again.

Personally i think he was brought it to rebuild and reshape the team and we wont be winning in these two years anyway but thats just me.

          3. njstuckintx

            ah. Understand now.

          4. njstuckintx

Even understanding it, I disagree that it’s dead man walking. In 2 years, you will have No Ollie, No Beltran, No Castillo and will have been going into a 2012 season with a lot of flexibility to make some significant strides to improve the team.

(granted, what you put forth may well be the case, but even if that is the truth, he’ll probably parley his deal into moving back into the role he excels at and will have made some nice coin in the deal to boot)

          5. oleosmirf

of course there is a pretty good chance in 2012 but what im saying is Collins is aware of the situation and what his role is.

          6. stickguy

Think of the 2 year deal as a probationary period. Collins has some baggage, and may not even be upto (or into) the job once he gets going.

so, after the first year, if either side realizes it isn’t working, no real damage done. He can go back to a coordinator job, or gets a nice severance package (depending on who decides to end it).

and if it is a marraige made in heaven (as we celebrate with the 2011 WC Mets), then he will get an extension.

middle ground is that they need more time to figure out if it is a keeper, so they can just let him roll with year 2.

          7. metsfan4decades

Makes sense to me. I don’t see 2 years as an insult but more as a precautionary type thing. I don’t think it’s personal either. No matter who they hired he probably wasn’t getting more than 2 years.

How many years did Gerardi get to start off with – wasn’t that 2 as well? He’s at the end of his two years and they’re negotiating a new contract now, right?

Rusty, I went in to try to see if I can find what it is that keeps giving you problems with Blackbird tweets.

As far as I know when you past the url of the tweet you want in blackbird it should look like this after you bake it.
    Blackbird Pic

I went in to see what in fact you had pasted in your post. It was not the code that was in Blackbird here is what I saw. Notice that I am in HTML mode which is outlined by the red square.
    Before Pic

Here is how it is supposed to look like when it’s pasted and anytime after that before you hit the publish button.
    After Pic

I don’t have a clue as to why you are having difficulties but I do recommend just don’t hit the publish button until you hit the preview button 1st.

If after you see the preview it doesn’t look right then at least you can work on figuring what is wrong or simply just write it up until we can figure out what is it that causes the code to change when you do it.

    1. rustyjr

i did all that but when I went to preview it all the code was still there so I figured at the very least what I uploaded was ok let me try again with another tweet

      1. Mr North Jersey

So let me make sure I understand. You are saying that after pasting the code you hit the preview button and when the preview page loads it looks just like it does right not up top?

        1. rustyjr

I just did another one… go to the site admin – see if it’s right and if it isnt please correct it and tell me what I did wrong

          1. rustyjr

            its called dan’s road trip

  3. Mr North Jersey

Should read “right now up top?

  4. Mr North Jersey

Your not pasting for whatever reason the code.

If you copy code from blackbird and past it in a text document you will see all blackbird tweets have toward the beginning the following embedded in them.

    <_ !-- http://twitter.com/#!/Ledger_NYMets/status/6808111792787457 --_> <_style type='text/css'_>.bbpBox

    Notice this section specifically.
    <_style type='text/css'_>

Your paste does not have them and when you hit preview it is immediately known because your preview will not display properly.

The only thing that I am aware that cause this is to switch to visual mode at any time after pasting the code.

In your case since say that you never switch to visual mode I am unable to figure what is the cause. I would just not do any more until we can do a remote session and you can show me what it is that you do so I can see why your paste of blackbird seems to remove that piece of code.

btw the pasted code above has underscores in them or else i would not b able 2 paste text in here so it would be the code minus the underscore your lookin for.

    1. Ceetar

does the code tag not work?

      .bbpBox

      Notice this section specifically.

      1. Ceetar

not very well it seems. noted the cite tag doesn’t work either. bah.

    2. rustyjr

I did every step as noted – I just am baffled . Can you upload that oat jerz ?

      1. rustyjr

        *upload the post

        1. Mr North Jersey

          N/P

I hope you at least see the differences now in the code.

I really don’t know why you are unable to do the pasting without issue. Maybe it is browser based but at least you have a better understanding of what’s there so until you can figure it out no more blackbird tweets for you.

  5. oleosmirf

i’m sure some of you have read this but this is a great piece on Collins. Thole, Gee and Nick the Stick had nothing but great things to say about him…

  6. Mr North Jersey

Here is the 2 codes rusty’s and blackbird’s code.
Notice how drasticly different and larger rusty’s code is.

    Comparison code Rusty vs Blackbird

The only way i am aware of the code doing that is switching to visual at any time once you paste code in html mode. even if you save it one cant ever switch to visual or code is corrupted.

    1. stickguy

OK, I think I followed all this.

Rusty is drastically larger than a Blackbird.

      Good to know!

  7. stickguy

As interesting as this episode of “tech talk” is, thanks to Oleo for changing the topic!

Honestly, for any of the manager choices, you could find people that love them or hate them (although the hate thems are a lot less likely to go on record). I prefer to let him have a chance (everyone starts with a clean slate), and wait to see him in action before deciding if he is good or bad.

and he is starting to grow on me, especially after seeing Olney compare him to dynomite. After the bland era of Willie and jerry, I would love to see someone with some edge vs. the media, and if they ask moronic questions (or worse, show them selves to be unprepared and unknowledgeable), call them out for it!

the MY meida seems to have gotten lazy if nothing else (facts? We don’t need no stinking facts!), and very attitudinal (like they want to be comedians, or part of the story). So, let them duke it out some. It will certainly liven the place up!

Collins just needs a catch phrase. Something to say whenever a reporter asks a particularly lame of obvious question (such as, “why did you put player X in the game?”).

I vote for “because I felt like it”, with a nice smirk on his face!

OK, that it what I would do. Terry can come up with his own schtick.

    1. Mr North Jersey

wow i just realized as an author once Matt adds you to Google groups u will have access to the never b4 seen underworld of RDM.

Shyt lemme go sweep the room.

      1. stickguy

        assuming I ever find it.

        1. Mr North Jersey

Unless u suffer from the same technical issues that seem 2 follow the rustman i would hope you could see a url.

          1. stickguy

Is that like seeing dead people?

          2. Mr North Jersey

Very good comparison but I would say it’s more like being able to access the secret platform 9-3/4 at King’s Cross Station located by between platforms 9 and 10 in the Harry Potter Films.
