The Long Awaited Debut Of Stickguy! “So the Mets have a manager. Now what?”

So the Mets have a manager. Now what?

The country can breathe again. The long search for a manager to lead the Mets is over. And once the Backman fans finish canceling their season ticket orders, what do we have to occupy ourselves for the next 3 months? That’s right, Hot Stove season!

There seems to be a common perception among many fans that the off season was going to consist of hiring a FO and hitting the beach, what with only 5 million to spend and the roster set. A few scrap heap guys, call it a year, and wait for 2012.

Well, I am not counting out some big moves happening. No I don’t expect any big $ FA signings. But there could be a lot more player movement than anticipated. Not just the usual minor leaguer shuffling and spare part moves. The Mets potentially have 2 very big names in play, with Beltran and Reyes on contract years. Beltran logically being the more likely option to move, but if Reyes doesn’t fit into the future vision for the team, Alderson could shop him.

Less likely to me is moving a LT contract like Bay (something I would like to do) but again, if Sandy has a vision, things could get done. And more than the obvious getting rid of Ollie and Castillo (2 moves that should, and will, happen IMO).

Moves also tend to be like an avalanche. Once it starts, it is hard to stop.

So, while I can’t guarantee you are going to be reeling in the aisles from the moves Alderson has planned, I will not be surprised if you are.

To me, this part of the year is almost as much fun as the regular season (and some years, much more). So let’s get the trade proposals coming!

wow – a post from our very own stickguy. I’m impressed…

I saw a tweet or a post somewhere indicating the FO won’t be making any moves until January. If true, wonder what the mindset on that is. I’ll be kind of surprised if we don’t come away from the winter meetings with at least one deal – no?

I’m sure bit parts here and there. the logic behind the January thing is that supposedly guys are overrating themselves, and owners could wait it out for them to get more realistic/desperate.

I’m not sure there’s any truth to that, just like I doubt their is truth to he 5million rumor, or that Alderson is mailing in 2011 already.

I expect he’ll get a catcher, 3-4 pitchers, at least one of which is a guarenteed major league starter guy. and a bunch of relievers here and there.

Then obviously the bench. Depending on how he fills second base, we’ll need at least a back up SS/MI guy. (turner? maybe? maybe not?)
Expect an Evans (out of options) type guy as the CI backup right handed power bat type guy. and they’ll need a backup outfielder as well. Lots of random options for these, and I doubt Alderson signs a guy specifically for a role like that. more of competition for spring training type guys.

We’ll see though. I, personally, hate hot stove season. all the stupid rumors and trade rumors, most of which are untrue or stupid. Just give me the results. I don’t need three days of tweets and posts about the Mets offered 3 years 24 million, but he wants 4 years but might be willing to do an option year if he gest 9 million per, or maybe an incentaive based deal based on starts is a possibility.

blah. give me the 40 guys that are competing. send them to Florida, and let’s get this season under way already.

I did it all for you.

my next goal is a post on MMO for bayonne titled “sabermetrics: texting or the devil’s tool?”

      1. metsfan4decades

hahaha – the response that a post like that would generate over on MMO would probably bring his sever to a grinding halt…..

      2. njstuckintx

I don’t think he’d be able to respond. He’s brain would explode prior.

YOU DIDN’T GIVE ME THE WHOLE BREAKDOWN OF THE PLAYER, JUST HIS OPS!!!!!!!!!!! ARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!

        1. stickguy

I can’t decide if he is about 80 years old, and like the Ed Asner character in Up!, or is a young guy like Ceetar.

          He also might be Jerry.

          1. njstuckintx

Have you seen where he proclaims he’s played the game vs. the stat-heads that haven’t. He’s just classic.

I believe he was born in the 60′s , so he’s not quite up to Ed’s character yet, even though it reads that way some time.

YOU YOUNG WHIPPERSNAPPERS!!!! TAKE YOUR STATS AND SHOVE EM!!!! At least he’s able to sign onto the internet and find MMO.

          2. Mr North Jersey

            LoL

Being frugal and creative – Flip Beltran to Texas/Anaheim/Boston for Salary relief and a prospect or 2. Use extra cash to sign Garland. Use Murphy or another internal candidate for 2B (platoon or not). BP Guys I have no clue on, they are such a crap shoot.

Being non-creative and budget blowing – Sign Garland regardless of budget. Spend some on Webb as a risk guy. Again, no clue on a BP

Being within the realms of reason. Sign some retread for innings and pray for a speedy recovery for Santana. Again, as mentioned, no clue for BP help.

    Wow, I am impressed.

Really nice to have you aboard, and may this be the first of many posts.

My only real question is, who did spellcheck, and how exhausted are they??

    :-)

    1. TRS86

      ?

    2. stickguy

I typed it in word, so that did the spell checking. I use IE here, and that doesn’t do auto checking for me

btw, I think there is a email plugin/option for WordPress that converts it automatically into a post? I could be wrong on that.

          1. TRS86

            Converts what?

          2. Ceetar

the email.Subject as title, body as text.

          3. kingman 26

Your ideas on Oliver Perez are far too esoteric for the general public to handle.

          4. rustyjr

Thinking of Ollie on next seasons staff makes my head explode

          5. Ceetar

It’s alright, our new pitching coach will know whatto do..
