    The new era has begun.

    LGM!

    So….odds on Feliciano accepting arbitration?

    1. njstuckintx

      0%

    2. Prismo

      I’m going with…40% accept, 60% reject.

I don’t know, tough call. Maybe it’s 50-50, maybe something else.

If I were him, I’d test the market. With Benoit getting a 3yr/16.5M contract (up to 3 mil in incentives on top of that), Pedro might be in for a good payday. He’s not young, this may be his last shot at a multi-year deal – I’d go for it. Maybe he goes 2yr/6M, which is less annually than he’ll get in arbitration, but it might be worth the security.

I’m hoping he eclipse – I’d like the sandwhich pick – especially if it’s pastrami on rye with a kosher sour pickle – yum :-)

        1. Prismo

Oh dude, you’re making me hungry for a sammich. How ’bout some fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil on a baguette. Delicioso!

          1. metsfan4decades

I’ll take the mozzarella, tomato and basil sandwich – thanks!

      2. njstuckintx

I think the yanks will offer him 2/8 or 3/10 or something like that. And he’s only a B. Maybe I’ll adjust my choice to 1%, but I don’t think he stays. The Mets could use him, for sure, but not at what he’ll get in Arb.

        1. Prismo

Here’s to hoping. Really want that free draft pick.

          1. njstuckintx

I do as well, but then again, the BP is currently Krod, Parnell, Iggy and the Hello Kitty Backpack.

          2. stickguy

Don’t mess with the backpack. The kitty can bring the heat.

the rest will fill in. there were a couple of good RPs inthe minors at least one of which I am sure is a loogy type. So figure 1 of them. that makes 4.

a long guy, could be Misch. that would make 5.

the other 2 will come out of the vast pool of MiL starters, scrap heap guys, extraneous FAs, etc.

at least if you have what should be your 3 back end guys, the loogy and the long/swing man, that is the bulk of the pen. The last 2 guys aren’t as important, but it would still be nice to have 7 usable arms (unlike last year…)

        2. metsfan4decades

I’m thinking as well that Pedro will go free agency b/c he’s interested in a multi year deal.

  2. njstuckintx

And if Collins does get references to Napoleon, people will be missing a slam dunk. Well, if they were tall enough to dunk, anyway…

  3. rustyjr

Hey jerz I’m both surprised & saddened that Terry didn’t impress you

    1. Mr North Jersey

      Really?

      1. rustyjr

Yeah – he seems so anti Jerry – you know confident and focused

    2. Mr North Jersey

He was asked these 6 questions i am paraphrasing them but theye were basically,

Kevin Burkhardt(SNY TV): Can you describe how you will use those qualities (fiery) with the mets?

Bruce Beck(WNBC TV): What about the challenge of becoming a manager today and not being around the game in the last decade?

Russ Salzberg(Fox5 & MY9 TV): Is it a realistic possibility that the mets will be the last team standing come the end of season?

Lolita Lopez(WPIX TV): How would you characterize your approach going into this year? Is this a rebuilding year? Is this a new year?

Kevin Garrity (NY1 News): How does teaching (the game) translate to the Major League level field and the dugout?

Ed Coleman (WFAN): What is going to be your top priority with this club?

Marsha Chan (Chinese Media Net): Will you bring your Asian experience to Mets? If yes how will you use those strategies? Will you bring Asian players?

The reply that most impressed me was the Kevin Garrity question about teaching.

Overall there was very little there for me but it dont matter since it will be what he does during the season that will be what is telling.

      1. rustyjr

        Point taken

  4. Mr North Jersey

OK so should we issue a “GRAVE ALERT”?

    1. metsfan4decades

I was thinking about him too. Maybe he’s out of town and/or entertaining for the holiday?

  5. Mr North Jersey

    http://proxy.espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/12394/collins-qa

“…And negativism, or losing, breeds negativism in the clubhouse. I did a bad job of managing the clubhouse. No question about it. And I’m accountable for that. I was the manager of that team. I should have done a better job of staying on top of it. I didn’t. I learned from it. It will never happen — I will guarantee you — it will not happen here.”

    1. stickguy

come on NJ, we all know from the recent debate that no man can ever learn from his mistakes or change. All the posters at FWICG told us that. Over and over again.

seriously though, I still think in LA he took one for the team, and resigned to help the FO out.

  6. stickguy

Cerrone had a nice long piece up on Collins, and how the search went down. And the more I read/here, the more I like the guy.

I also realized from looking at some pictures, that in about 10 years, he is going to look exactly like Casey when he was with the Mets.

I also get the sense that Hale is going to be his “assistant” in some ways, and could easliy be getting groomed to take over whenever Collins decides to move on (or is tossed overboard!) opefully it is an orderly transition, and a mutual decision, with a nice seamless transfer of power.

MC also had an interesting point about Samuels running the show, and enabling the “country club entitlement” culture on the team. So having him gone, could be good.

in any case, this team will be going through a major reorienting process this year, with a new found sense of professionalism and seriousness. And any players that can’t handle it, will not be here by 2012.

    1. metsfan4decades

But does Cerrone ever commit to an opinion?

‘He answered questions directly, specifically when asked about his time with the Angels. This will work for him, it might also work against him.’
‘Also, he looks and sounds ‘old school,’ which is refreshing. I have no idea how he will connect with today’s players. I can see it going either way.’

      1. Mr North Jersey

Cerrone has always been afraid of confrontation. its why he screens people cause he could not deal with being called out constantly.

had he only been praised way back then does any1 think he’d be screening posts?

yeah rite of u believe he still would i have a pet rock i am sellin also.

        1. metsfan4decades

          Spot on, jerze.

And no thanks. I think I’ve got my own pet rock stored away – somewhere….

      2. stickguy

I was just interested in the background info he can provide. I got no problem forming my own opinion!

  7. metsfan4decades

Against my better judgement I tuned into the interview with the Pope and Collins. I missed most of it though, only caught the end.

Right now, Sandy is on with him. Francessa offered his condolences. Sandy thanked him but you can hear how much it affected him. Sounds so sad. Went on to say working half days allowed him to focus on something else for a bit other than the sadness he and his family are going through right now.

One thing I’ve noticed in the couple of interviews with Mike and Sandy so far. Sandy seems to be one of the few people Mike does not talk over (which is my big pet peeve with him). Either he respects him, or doesn’t want to piss him off just yet…..

    1. stickguy

probably the latter. I could see Sandy being th eguy to stand up with him and cut him off.
