NY Post Interview With Terry Collins

While debate continues on our new field general, the feeling here is that today’s NY Post interview with Collins, conducted by Steve Serby, is very revealing and worth reading:

Collins does seem as though he is a good choice to lead this particular group right now.

And despite the very misleading criticism of Wally Backman’s reaction at being passed over, he will in fact be back managing in the team’s minor league system, and very well could be Collins’ successor-in-waiting.

With the mental health of our beloved readers in mind, we definitely recommend avoiding the rest of the NY Post beyond the sports section.

Happy holiday season to all!

It’s going to be interesting with Collins managing this year. Not only b/c he seems polar opposite of the last two managers but b/c he’s so up front and out there, it’s going to be interesting to see how he handles the NY media.

We all know that with this team has had talent going back to 2006. We all know they barely went anywhere with that talent – outside of post season in 2006. Not much was said about Willie – and his clubhouse – after he left. There were a few rumors alluded to though.
    .
Nothing too specific was said this off season so far about Jerry either. But with both I got the impression that even if Willie had control and/or respect, he lost it at the end. Jerry…I’m not sure he ever had control.

Whether it works or not, whether the players rally under Collins or not, I’m thinking things are going to be done his way – period. Here’s hoping that’s exactly what these players need. I still don’t buy this is a bunch of soft, lazy players. I still think it’s more a matter of no clear leadership.

    We’ll soon see…..

there are very few players left from 2006 at this point.

        Agreed.
In 2006 we more or less had the division locked up by the ASB. Think they played about .500 ball the second half. Have to wonder why….
In ’07 there was just no way we should have blown that lead – with or without that crappy BP.
In ’08 we competed but not as well as I think the talent was capable of.
        ’09 was a lost season.
’10 – even with some injuries, we still saw some sloppy play from time to time.

When I look back now, I’m more inclined to believe a good part of the problem was the manager, coaches, GM…..
