Pavano is a noteable arbritration declinee? Okay…..

So we wound up with just one sandwich pick this year? Sandy and Co. better get busy in the International market and such.
On that note, I read a small blurb today on a 17 year old SS we’ve got down on the farm with the last name of Reyes. Here’s hoping he follows in Jose’s footsteps.

    Mack’s Mets reporting:

Mets Sign LHP Mike O’Connor to a Minor League Contract with Camp Invite

Southpaw Posted 2.67ERA in 51 Games with Bisons in 2010

The New York Mets have signed LHP MIKE O’CONNOR to a minor league contract with an invite to major league spring training.
O’Connor, 30, spent the entire 2010 season with the Bisons and was the club’s most used reliever. In a team-high 51 appearances, O’Connor was 5-2 with a 2.67ERA and six saves (70.2IP, 65H, 25R, 21ER, 17BB, 70K). He ranked T1st on the Bisons in saves, 3rd in games finished (118) and 4th in strikeouts.
O’Connor allowed just nine of 35 inherited runners to score in 2010 (26%) and pitched more than one inning in 21 of his 51 outings with the team. He posted a sub 3.00 ERA in the final four months of the season: June (1.76), July (2.38), August (2.25) and September (1.69). Opponents hit just .191 (13-68) against O’Connor with runners in scoring position.

    Team high 51 appearances?
Is this our Pedro the II?

certainly likely to be in mix.

I would not be surprised to see 3-4 of the pen slots and 2B both as open competitions in ST.

Actually, put RF in there too. Even if pagan and beltran are both still on the team, I would not expect Angel to be guaranteed a FT starting gig.

I also like my 4 man OF rotation idea still, so I am hoping to make that work!

I don’t see how considering our team, that Pagan is not guaranteed a full time starting gig. At least until he now proves that he is not a FT guy.

especially given our next best option is Lucas Duda.

          1. stickguy

we also don’t know what our next best option is at this point. until ST hits and the actual roster is in place, this is all just conceptual talk anyway!

        2. stickguy

Well, we should have learned by now that guaranteeing starting gigs in advance to less than stud level guys is not a great idea. So ST should be an opportunity for guys to step up and stake out PT.

and I was not saying he should be shoved on the bench. With Bay and Beltran, there is already a big need for a 4th OF. and if say Duda looks good in RF and is crushing the ball, the team may make the decision that Pagan will serve best as a 4th man/swing guy, but still playing 4-5 games per week.

So, you want a RH power bat to play next year? How about Carlos Quentin?

This from Jason Stark: So to move Quentin, they’ve told other clubs they would want a young left-handed bat with similar “high-ceiling talent” — and someone they could hang on to for more than the two years they can control Quentin.

It would break my heart, but sounds like Duda to me!

      lol

      1. stickguy

        wait, what’s so funny?

I am curious though, what they want and what they can actually get for him.

        1. TRS86

Got to agree with Oleo. Duda we have no idea what his ceiling is but right now I don’t think anyone would predict that it is Carlos Quentin. Honestly we just don’t match up well there. Ike is too much IMO and Duda is no where near enough.

          1. stickguy

I was joking there, kinda. but not entirely, and I am sure it would involve some other players.

        2. oleosmirf

they’d probably want Ike Davis or bust
