This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty : The ” Perfect Gift ” Edition 12-26-10

I hope everybody out there had a great holiday – whatever you were celebrating. I had one gift that truly made me happy.

Mets alumni celebrating a birthdays today are :

Ray Sadecki is 70 (1940) . Ray was a guy who was primarily used as a reliever in his tenure with the Mets. He came back to the Mets in the ’77 season but he was way passed his prime and subsequently released.

Mets first base coach from the ’02 season,Chris Chambliss is 62 (1948) .

New York Mets signed free agent pitcher, Scott Holman on December 26, 1979. Holman would spend the next three seasons shuttling between the Mets starting rotation and the bullpen.

New York Mets signed free agent back up first baseman, Jim Tatum on December 26, 1997.

New York Mets signed free agent relief pitcher, Pete Walker on December 26, 2000.

And while you are beating yourself up for having third helpings of momma’s lasagna, just remember that there are just 96 days until the Mets open the 2011 season against the Florida Marlins in Miami and 103 days until the Mets 2011 home opener against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.

Very nice, Rusty. I remember Ray Sadecki. From his earlier days, I expected good things in ’77 but as you said, was not to be. Past his better days by ’77. Then again, those late 70s/early 80s teams were not fun. ‘The Magic is Back’….my eye it was….

Ray Sadecki had a real good year for the 73 Mets and 4 good IP in the 73 WS.

    Thanks for the memory Rusty!
