Agreed. If he reaches 3M even it will most likely have been a productive season.

30 starts and 175 innings would based on my count net him around 3.5M.

Which would be well worth it. Maybe Young was waiting for those detail to see what he could get as a base line.

yup. a bargain for the mets.
really, this is how contracts for guys coming off extended injury problems should be written.
hell, if young would take the identical deal, sign him tomorrow. wrost case (well, payroll wise) would be 7mill total for 2 mid-rotation SPs that made ~ 30 starts each. Now that is bang for your buck.

I would even give Young 2.5 base and up to 5.5 if it gets the deal done.

Anyone want to do some last minute HOF predictions?
I Think Alomar, and Blyleven will get in.
If I had a vote I would choose, Alomar, Morris
Here’s a quick cheat sheet:

If Alomar doesn’t get in it would be almost criminal.

Agreed, it already was with Alomar.

If I had a vote? Hmmm. I would choose Alomar, Larkin, and Bert.

Bert and Alomar yes; no way on Larkin. Not before Keith is in!!

You know over on MMo the Keith gettin in the HOF discussion came up a while back and after looking at Keith’s career statistically speaking I am not sure he is HOF worthy.

You are right.
I am biased on Keith and I agree he just did not have enough real good years.

I think Bagwell gets in too.

yeah, he should qualify. I don’t pay much attention to the HOF stuff, so I thought he was not eligible for a few more years? or aren’t we talking about the upcoming class?

I would think he should, but he won’t on the first ballot, unfortunately.

I still prefer dominance over accumulation for the HOF. It should be guys that were really the best, even if they didn’t last as long.
I would rather have a guy with 10 fantastic years (200 wins say) than one that was always good/solid, had a few very good seasons, and managed to stay healthy enough to pitch 20 years and get say 300 wins.
A lot of the guys that lingered, if you take out the last X number of years (5 maybe?) where they were far from a star or top player, but get plodding along padding their stats, what is left is far from a great all-time player.
maybe they need 2 wings. The main one with the big plaques for the true stars, and a side wing with smaller signs for the guys that had nice long careers, and accumulated good numbers while never being one of the best. Call it the Don Sutton wing. Keith could go in here too probably.

To me, that’s where the first ballot HOF vs. 2nd/3rd/4th attempts act as a hierarchy of such.

1/5/2011-2:16pm at 2:16 pm (UTC -4)
yeah, even though it is silly. either a guy is good enough or not.
maybe they can let the writers give “special” guys bonus points or something.

I will now change my prediction to Blyleven and Alomar.
