Former Met Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven are the two inductees this year into baseball’s Hall of Fame.

Since we’re talking about it anyway, might as well make it on topic?
how do I attach a picture for it?

If you look on the bottom rightish of the post editor, you’ll see “Featured Image” – click on ‘set featured image.’ Then either upload an image or choose one from the library (do not use a URL link) – after that image is shown, right under the Size options click “use as featured image.” Then you can just X out of that image box, and there should be a small picture on the post editor page under Featured Image. That’s it.

Don’t know, I never could get that one to work. If you find an image online, just save it to your desktop and upload it on wordpress…

The feature image slide show has to pull from items saved to the host.

As I reported on Twitter, I’m hearing from my sources that Alomar will NOT be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Met. Again, this is only preliminary. And Buster Olney…achem…my sources…cannot 100% confirm this report.
Alomar racked up 13 dingers, 86 runs batted in, and 17 fielding errors during his 1.5 year stint on the Mets. (personally, I really think he’s a Met for life)

I just had MLB network on when they were interviewing Alomar on what hat he thinks he’ll be inducted in with. He started to say he doesn’t have any control over that and I’m assuming they were going to ask him what team he’d like to go in with. However, got a phone call right then so had to mute it. Didn’t get to hear the thoughts on that.

whoever voted for B.J surhoff should have his voting rights revoked.
Hey, think Roberto will go in wearing a Mets hat?

I thought Bagwell deserved more votes, surprisingly low.
In fact, Joe Posnanski convinced me of McGuire as well.

LOL Some Yankees fans I know are reporting that Piazza only gets in if Sam Champion is admitted with him. LOL

I know Kingman disagrees but Larkin is seriously underrated. He may be the in the top 5 SS of all-time not counting some that are not elligible yet.

Nah, cannot agree with that.
Really, really good player for a long time, but better than Raines, Parker, or Keith?
Would you choose him over any of those guys for one year in their prime?

well, from 96-98, he averaged ~.940 OPS. Pretty damned good for a SS. 1B and RF have to get knocked down a bit in a comparison.
Raines broke .900 once, but did steal more bags FWIW.
Parker had 1 3 year period of .900+ that was comparable. A few more HRs overall, less SBs, and actually a lower career OPS.
Keith is a pretty close comparison, with similar high OBP and slg.%. ANd of course the D, but that is seriously undervalued in looking at the HOF, especially at a position where it is not “normal”, so Larkin probably gets more bonus points there.
If Keith had put up his numbers at 3B or 2B, he would be looked at much differently. He just looks weak as a 1B not even having 200 HRs. May not be fair, but just the way voters look at it.

Well, the Kingman Hall of Fame takes defense very seriously!
Keith was hands down the best defensive first baseman I have ever seen, and Parker had an arm that was beyond belief.
But overall, I don’t really think any of them are for sure HOFers.

Keith really was an outlier when he played. He did not at all fit the mold of a 1B of the time, and his numbers reflect that. and IMO HOF voters are not particularly good about thinking outside the box when it comes to evaluating guys like this.
they also only seem to factor in D (to the level they do factor it in) for the premium D positions like SS.

Agreed all around, but remember, Keith did hit some doubles and drove in runs—back when they had the game-winning RBI stat, if I remember correctly, he was always among the leaders.
Dare I say that he was clutch??

oh, as to your question, not sure what relevance that has to HOF voting, but yes, if you cherry pick their “best” year, and factor in positinal difficulty (for defense and compared to others playing the spot) then yes, Larkins best year is very comparable to any of those 3 guys.

Kingman, in my opinion you have to look at stats based on position. Should a SS’s offensive output have to be the same as a 1B?
Again, name 5 SS with better stats. Name 3 non active SS with better stats.
When you look at things, Wagner, Banks (who played significant games at other positions) Ripken, and uh…
