I think most Met fans understand the FO plan for this year.
Problem is, some don’t like it and/or believe in it. Philly went out and signed Lee so Mets should sign someone high profile, high $$s as well to compete.
That’s just a dumb idea all the way around. But nothing I can write here will convince some otherwise.
I am assuming you are referring to Bill James and I think it gives too much weight to the year before. Especially in terms of games played. If you look at the Fans40 prediction it’s 22 HR and 95 RBI in 143 games and BJ is 133 games and 21 75.
I don’t think you can just look that heavily at the prior year, and assume anyone will do the exact same.
veterans still in what should be their prime you should probably take some sort of average of years. older guys, you have to determine if they are probably on the decline, and assume lower #s. Young guy like Ike, figure they are going to improve.
This from Bitter Bill. Next time he writes something to piss us off just remember he is doing a job. I say this more for me than anyone else mind you.
“Now to a serious note: The Dallas Green story out of the Arizona tragedy – and the entire story in general – is another awful reminder of how precious life is and how it can end at any second. I spent Saturday – before I heard about the story – upset that my kids’ two rec basketball teams lost. Do you believe that? It just goes to show that as crazy as we get about the Mets and sports in general, it really is just a distraction from real life. And as bad as the Mets can be, or as much as they drive us crazy, it’s good to have that sort of distraction, because if you stop and think about some of the stuff that goes on in this world, it’s downright depressing.
Have a good night. Hug your kids if you have them and pray for Green and everyone affected by the Arizona shooting.”
I say this from my perspective, which is a Met fan that lives and dies with this team: He’s got a point.
As much as I want the Mets to win it all year after year, it really has very little effect on my personal life it they don’t.
I’m not sure what the hold up is.. Maybe both parties are waiting for Francis to make the move before deciding. Or if it’s the $$ they cannot agree. But it seems both parties want each other… I don’t understand the long hold out.
Perhaps it’s the Mets looking at other options before making a decision on Young, but at this point, outside of maybe Francis, Young maybe the best fit for the Mets.
So what are we really looking at here, then? Young signs, maybe 1 last lefty for the Bull Pen. DFA of Castillo. Perez stays (at least into Spring Training). Met’s sign 1 last 4th OF type.
That should basically fill every they need, right? 2b & bench will sort itself out in Spring Training, no?

I think even the 4th OF should sort itself out too with couple minor league signing with the invite to ST.
All they need are a SP and BP help.

Most certainly.
I was thinking, what would appease Met’s fans more. Signing a BP arm and Young or releasing Castillo & Perez?
I heard something interesting last week on MLB from Harold Reynolds. Tampa Rays are clearly in a rebuilding mode. They might even try to ship away BJ Upton now that he’s entering his 2nd arb season.
I’m not sure how BJ Upton would fit with the Mets, but he’s certainly an interesting choice. Outside of 1 season, he didn’t seem to have lived up to his hype, but he’ certainly seems to have the potential. And it seems like he was brought up as a mid-inf and has played some 2B back in ’07. He’ll be entering FA at the age of 27 after 2012 season.
I wouldn’t even know what it could cost to get him. I think he would be thought of more as a luxury than as a necessity. Then again, he used to play 2b, so…

Anyone know just how accurate Fangraphs is in relation to it’s predictions? Bay’s prediction was not very promising. Just curious.

Even just 5 1/2 weeks, which is about what it seems how long it will take to get Young.

It would be sweet to have Buchholz back to where he was before. Same with Capuano.

I don’t know if the Rays will even trade this offseason. But I’m sure his name will come up during the season/ next offseason.
His numbers aren’t all that impressive though.
