Mets Ace Johan Santana was reported today to have been cleared to begin a rehab program. According to a team spokesman he should be throwing before Spring Training begins. The spokesman was quoted to say “It’s about where we’re supposed to be.” regarding his rehad schedule.

It’s so much better than hearing he’s not been cleared to throw and is behind schedule already.

Actually it’s a week or so “ahead” of schedule. I don’t expect him to make leaps and bounds and HGH like some across town, but I do think he’s a healthy strong-healing guy and will be b ack for the pennant push.

Still worried about trying to rush it. I would say do that if he was at the end of his deal, but I would rather they did not even try to bring him back at all for 2011 if it meant a better chance of getting production for the 3 years after that.

They know best.
Plus, building up arm strength and using it is probably best for long term recovery. He’ll be able to exercise it for 3.5 months (half of July, August, September, October) and then shut it down and rest it.

I don’t mean not to work him out and build his stregth back up. Just not worry about getting him on the field doing it in games that count.
he has a reputation of being overly competitive. So you think he just might reach back a little to far too early in the heat of the moment?

This was my point with guys like Francis. It would be hard to pay him enough to come in and not have a sure spot in the rotation. He would be costing himself a ton of money for 2012.
“Jeff Francis says he drew interest from “a bunch” of teams this offseason before agreeing to sign in Kansas City. His suitors reportedly included the Yankees and Rockies, but Francis chose the Royals instead of a team with a legitimate chance to contend in 2011.
As he explained on a conference call with reporters this afternoon, the left-hander chose the Royals because they offered him the opportunity to start”

Not going to make a big deal about this as he is a former Philly and not really Met related at all but is there a player around more underrated than Jim Thome? How many of you would put him in the top hitters of all time list? If not then go back and look at his stats. Says he wants to play 2 more years. If he continues normal production then he could end his career with 650 HR, good enough for 5th all-time and take a peak at his line…. .278 .404 .559 .963 with a 147 OPS+ Last year was absolutely incredible .283 .412 .627 1.039.
