Mets Sign Chavez, Inching Closer To A Deal With Young ?

" Depth for Buffalo "

In other news , it looks as though Chris Young may be Flushing bound according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com. he is reporting that the Washington Nationals are not interested in  free agent starter Chris Young . If this is true and Nats are out of the running for Young’s services, then it should be any day now that Young will don a Mets uniform.

According to ESPN.com reporter, Adam Rubin, the Mets have signed catcher, Raul Chavez to a minor league contract that includes an invitation to Spring Training, Chavez, 37,Whose last played in the majors back in the 2009 season with the Toronto Blue Jays , had  posted a .631 OPS in 168 plate appearances that season..  He spent last season catching for the Blue Jays’ Triple-A affiliate.  Well I guess he provides depth for the Mets in Buffalo .

they did seem to be short of catchers in the system, at least at the higher levels.

besides, don’t they always bring in extra catchers for ST, just because they have so many pitchers to deal with?

If he ends up catching games for the mets I will be surprised. And depressed. Something in that range!

I would be happy to see young come on board.

if he really is recovered, could give them some valuable outings. If not, not biggie.

at least they would have added some reinforcements to tide the team over for 2011.

Since there is not much left on the pitching FA market in the Mets self imposed $$ range, I’d like to see Young signed. Pitching depth was the #1 need this off season, IMO.

The more the merrier and here’s hoping all arms are healthy and ready to go AND look decent in ST. That’s a good problem to have, right?

Regarding the Chavez signing and invite to ST, seems like just about everyone Sandy’s signed so far has an invite to ST. No problem with that.

assuming they get young, I can live with the rotation. Not fantastic, but once Johan went down for the year, that was probably a given. Would have liked to see a trade for someone better for the future too, but did not seem to be in the cards.

pelf, dickey, neise, capuano, young. Gee and misch and Boof in reserve.

better hope those rehab guys stay healthy for a while! Although I don’t mind seeing Gee get a shot.

Our Mr.NJ, making friends and influencing people!

MMO gets to be quite entertaining sometimes. Some seriously opinionated people over there, and never, ever mention sabermetrics.

Never realized that MRNJ commenting on Bayonne’s stuff was in the fine print. 10 lashes with a wet noodle!

bayonne really does liven up that message board. And a few of the other posters seem to like to go out of their way to push his buttons (something that seems quite easy to do).
