   I’d really like to be talking about how Pelf has surprised all coming into June with holding his own against other teams ace pitchers.

      Through June Pelfrey had certainly been holding his own last year. It was July that inflated his stats.
      5 starts ERA of 10.02, 20 innings 23 runs, WHIP of 2.66.

      Take out July and Pelfrey is an upper rotation guy last season.

            Or the disaster that was the Mets front office and manager. Or a bit of a dead arm period. Wonder what his velocity was for July?

               He did mention a bit of dead arm early on.

               Those are pretty bad July numbers. I can’t believe the news of Beltran’s return messed up him so much.

               While you can’t “take out July” you need to figure out why it was as bad as it was. Did he need to be skipped a start? (Was “dead arm” code for “Gee coach, my shoulder kinda aches a bit”?) Should Warthen have been better at recorrecting what was wrong or readjusting the pitch selection plan toa league that maybe started to get a better read on him?
