Much Ado About Nothing

As expected two AAAA players cleared waivers yesterday and will report to AAA.

Both OF Jason Pridie and SP Tobi Stoner will be invited to Spring Training but are no longer taking up valuable 40 man roster spots.  Neither at this point expect to figure into the opening day roster (if they do something went terribly wrong) and baring the unforeseen injury they will not even be next in line.

Last week there was an uproar that we should not be “losing” two valuable players at the cost of Castillo and Perez.  Frankly like either of those two or not they have more talent even now than Pridie and Stoner who are and may never be major leaguers.  Sorry.  I know I want Luis and Ollie gone as bad as anyone but this is a great chance for Mets fans to show they are ready for the Alderson movement and show something we are not known for… PATIENCE.

    Thank you for posting this.

Among the more idiotic of the regularly idiotic reactions of Met nation was the nonsense over this.

Pridie is such a zero that I would easily and enthusiastically take Carter over him. A mediocre minor leaguer well into his twenties—yes, Castillo still remains far more valuable than Pridie.

    Thank you.

There wasn’t really an uproar on RDM! Even myself, who wants Castillo/Perez jettisoned at almost any cost, admitted that Pridie/Stoner was probably the right move!

Yeah, don’t go lumping us in with the fanatical fringe!

pridie for sure was. No one really got on sandy about him.

Stoner was more of the head scratcher. There was a chance he could have been claimed (a slim one) and that would not have been good, given how little depth they have at SP

I see no harm with having either Ollie or Slappy come in the S/T to prove they are still worthy to me on the roster – as long as they are released if they prove to bring nothing of value to this seasons roster – and no benchwarmer doesn’t count

the only harm would be if the Mets try to sneak a guy they do want to keep to the minors instead, and he gets claim. then they caused harm!

I think Met fans that were ‘outraged’ over this was not b/c they thought two talented players were being sacrificed, it was b/c they want Ollie and Castillo gone, period. Consensus, from what I read, is it would send a positive message to the fan base.

As a whole, if the Mets FO starts making decisions based on what the fan base thinks they should be doing, we’ll really be sorry.

Agreed. Spent too much time away from here though. All those Pridie is valuable we can’t lose him post were getting to me. He’s a 5th OF on a non-competitive team. You don’t have to waste 40 man spots on those types.

He’s a fifth outfielder in AAA ball.

good point. If you are getting sent down and have no chance of earning a starting job, you are replaceable.

the BB universe is full of Pridie types that you can get for nothing whenever you need one.

            Bingo!

Is he going to start in the Buffalo OF ahead of FMart, Evans, or your personal all-time hero and future 10-time MVP and all-time HR champ?

            No way.

            you forgot 2011 ROY.

          3. kingman 26

Nah, just didn’t bother mentioning it……for a guy like your BFF, ROY is small potatoes.
