Per Andy Martino of the Daily News, the Mets and R.A. Dickey have agreed to terms on a 2-year deal with a club option for a third year. The agreement is pending a physical, which will probably take place Monday in New York.
R.A. made 27 starts last season for the Mets, posting a Cy-Youngish ERA of 2.84 and an excellent WHIP of 1.19. Hopefully the knuckleballer can keep up the hot pitching in his age 36 season.

I wonder if the timing of this was on purpose – to cover up some of the mess of the Wilpon stuff. Regardless, hopefully it’s a deal that works out well for the team! LGM!

It can’t all be cloak and dagger, can it?

more likely, the wilpon stuff has nothing to do with Sandy and the FO, and them doing their job. Because at this point, it doesn’t.

Thank god, some actual baseball news. And good news at that.
I am getting all geared up for a long rant (er, I mean post) about now. Couple more beers and I should be ready!
love to see it being a 2 year deal.
one more notch off the list of To Dos for next off season. hell, if he is for real, and Johan is actually back and effective by 2012, they could have a pretty damned good rotation.

Agree all around! I hope your long rant/post is about baseball stuff, not Wilpon/money stuff!
If you think about, the Mets can have Santana/Dickey/Pelfrey/Niese for next season and will have money to sign or trade for another top starter. Could be a very good rotation, of course…that’s getting way ahead of things. First Dickey has to maintain his great pitching, and second Santana has to recover from his surgery and maintain his velocity.

thats the beauty of blogging. we get to speculate and dream!
Like you say, best case is that Dickey has a couple more good years in him. and that Pelf and Neise continue to develop and improve. and the biggie, that Johan is back and close to the old johan by 2012.
and if that happens, they may not blow a bundle on another SP, though it would certainly be nice!
The 3 big questions looming for 2012 (not that I am getting ahead) are Johan, man or myth?, replacing Beltran, and replacing Reyes.

Not trying to be negative, but let’s see part of the season before building up our dream scenarios for 2012. Either way, this makes me happy. More Dickey!

if that makes you happy, more power to you.
not that there’s anything wrong with that…

losing track here, but is Pagan still unsigned? I know they reached terms with Pelfrey.

Yes, Pagan is the last holdout. $3.06 vs $4.20.

he has 2 arb years left also. wonder if he will get a 2 year deal also? If nothing else, makes him very tradeable.

I would assume he only gets a one year deal and if he plays well again, he will get a 2 year deal next off-season.

Glad to see this. To me, it shows they’re willing to give multi year deals and/or money to those they feel are worth it or deserve it. I was pretty much resigned to them meeting Dickey half way on his requested salary for one year and calling it a day.
