OK so MUST at this time of year is relative. However, after reading an article from MLBTR on Chad Durbin it seems like a no brainer to me.
Durbin has the ability to start or relieve and has posted good numbers even in the band box he has called home.
“The 33-year-old posted a 3.80 ERA with 8.3 K/9, 3.5 BB/9 and a 42.4% ground ball rate in 68 2/3 innings last year. Durbin has averaged 65 appearances and 75 innings in three seasons out of the Phillies’ bullpen.”
Right now it appears that he is only seeking an MLB contract and has offers only for MILB contracts at this point. What would it hurt to give this guy a 1+1 deal for 2M or less? If anything he gives the Mets another arm to throw in the mix, if nothing else he takes a bullpen option away from the Phillies.
