According to Adam Rubin of ESPN, Sandy Alderson will be cutting players between this morning and tomorrow. The BIG question is: Will Oliver Perez or Luis Castillo be included!
More to come!
UPDATE: According to Metsblog:
“So far, according to these posts from reporters on Twitter, Russ Adams, Boof Bonser, Taylor Tankersley, Jason Pridie and Dustin Ryan have been cut from camp.”
Also Rubin adds Iggy’s name to the mix.

Yeah just mentioned this on the other page but Martino is suggesting Castillo will be cut due to the fans being racist. LOL.
I am not sure Perez and Castillo go in this round. Expecting more along the lines of Dusty, Adams, Boyer….

That’s not what Martino said.
What he did say — and which I disagree with 100% — is that the fans don’t like him, possibly due in part to racism. He didn’t say the Mets would cut him because of race. That’s a big difference.
It’s a ridiculous and unfounded thing to say nonetheless.
Mets fans have never embraced a Dominican baseball player?

Castillo wouldn’t be good if he was purple, black, brown, yellow, white, green or red.
Maybe we should all be sued for age discrimination, as we are obviously all against Castillo’s 80 year old legs.

That’s not what I said either. I said the Mets would cut him because the fans are racist. The premise is that the Mets would cut him because he is despised by the fans and the fans don’t like him partially because of racism.

It’s always a dangerous ground when you are playing a race card

As far as I am concerned I hope this is the Willie incident for Martino. What a terrible article to even suggest this is a possibility. Yeah go ahead and call the fanbase that reads your articles racist. Cut your own throat. Better enjoy the quick hits you get from this might be your last.

I really wonder what these reporters are thinking. I mean Queens has like over 30% Hispanic people living there.

I do know that we most likely have a winner for the J.A of the day award already! And maybe he should get an extra, weekly grand prize.

So, the fans worship Jose and Johan, but they hate Castillo (and Ollie??) because of race.
Yes, yet another example of the wisdom of the beat reporter.
As Hobson said in Arthur “How revolting!”
Seriously, what a moronic thing to say.
As our own beloved white guy Rusty’s series showed, Met fans place Jose, Johan, Doc and Darryl near the tops of their lists.
The more I think about it—and people here know that I DETEST racism and the race card– the idea of Met fans being racist might just be the stupidest thing I have EVER heard from the Chorus of Mediocrity that the beat writers are.
Met fans are made up of a huge number of black, Jewish, and Hispanic people, and have been since day one.
The Mets could have the game’s most open-minded and diverse fan base.
I seriously am starting to wonder why some of you read this utter horsesh*t and insist on soiling our site with it.
You might as well read junior high school newspapers.
They might have more intelligent and more important reporting than this indisputably moronic CRAP.

Mattsblog cites Twitter reports of Tankersley, Ryan, Bonser and Adams being cut. I believe all can be sent to AAA (and Tank and Bonser most certainly should be).

I sure as hell hope Tankersley and Boof go. They suck long and hard.
And could not agree more on the inane racism issue.

probably another 10 or so. Depending on stuff like does Beltran start ont he Dl (well, duh!)
These were the easy ones. The next round includes the tough decisions (and not so tough but more messy, like slappy and ollie)

So it looks like 6 players have been cut. Pridie, Igarashi, Adams, Bonser, Ryan and Tankersley.

well, a need for a spot starter and 1/2 injuries, and you just might be finding out!

Per Delcos, Gee was among the cuts too (along with Raul Chavez, no surprise).
That pretty much means Capuano has the #5 spot sewn up, though I think he had that coming into camp, as long as he showed he was healthy enough to pitch OK!
Much more comfortable with the rotation, 1-5, this year than in the past couple. Not having Maine and Ollie is a huge upgrade

Your faith is impressive my friend.
I think Pelf is going to have a fine year, but the starting pitching is going to make or break any chance we have to have a good record.

Ah, my music loving friend. Figures that got your attention! at least here my side of things.
Maine and Ollie last year were both damaged goods (as in currently damaged, not damaged, fixed, and rehabbed and currently OK, like capuano and young). Of course there is no guarantee of staying healthy for any of them, but right now, today, they are all fine and pitching with no restrictions.
Plus, Dickey and Neise have gone from unknowns essentially to semi-established guys with good sized stretches of very good to excellent pitching in the majors. Again, of course they are not guaranteed to do as well or better (but, not worse also).
So, my point is, that even without johan, going into the season the rotation is better, more established, more reliable and deeper than it was going into last year (and probably 2009, and giving 07-08 a run for their money!)
Of course you need good SP to have a strong record (very hard to do otherwise). But even if it is just about what they got last year (overall), that will keep them competitive.
The offense though is what is going to make or break any chance of a good (upper 80s) record. If it sucks like last year, .500 will be a stretch.
30 1 run losses last year, and many of them were low scoring games. Just find a way to scrap out a couple more runs here and there, and maybe 10 of them they win. Well, 10 more wins means an 89 win team. And that is a big reason I think the team can do better this year than many people predict.
Most of the year, even when losing, they wren’t getting blown out, they were getting Jerrified!
