This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The ” Top 10 Oliver Perez Theme Songs” Edition 03-20-11

" Don't Just sit there Ollie - LEAVE !!!!"

Yesterday while I was watching Oliver Perez implode , screw the pooch,  stamp his one way ticket out of here ( or whatever term for hit the road bub that you would like to use !!) ) , I was posting  what I had called the Ollie Perez theme song thread on twitter. Well I had so much fun with it yesterday that I will republish the 10 best  right here for your amusement

10. The Ollie Dies Down On Broadway – Genesis ( lamb/ Ollie does it really matter? )

09. These Boots Are Made For Walking –   Nancy Sinatra

08. Run Like Hell - Pink Floyd ( before the crowd tramples him under foot)

07. Without You -Motley Crue

06. Death On 2 Legs - Queen ( Freddie Mercury’s ode to a blood money sucking leech)

05. Take The Money And Run - Steve Miller Band

04. The End - The Doors

03. Free Falling-  Tom Petty( do you hear that Ollie ? it’s the sound of your career dissipating !!)

02. Separate Ways – Journey

And the number one song  that should be on Oliver Perez’s I-Pod – Happy Trails by Roy Rogers !!!

And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:

Mets outfielder from the ’64 season, George Altman is 78 (1933) .

Middle reliever from ’63-’64, Steve Dillon is 68 (1943).

Mets reserve outfielder from the ’94 season, Rick Parker is 48 (1963) .

Mets middle reliever from ’95-’96, Blas Minor is 45 (1966).

Reserve infielder from the ’97 season, Manny Alexander is 40 (1971) .

Sadly on this date in 2001, one time Mets utility infielder, Luis Alvarado passed away. He had the distinction of playing in just one game as a Met before being sold back to the Detroit Tigers – the team that the Mets purchased him that off-season.

The New York Mets purchased starting pitcher, Frank Lary from the Milwaukee Braves on March 20, 1965.

The New York Mets signed free agent starting pitcher, Octavio Dotel on March 20, 1993.Many people forget that Dotel was at one time the Mets best pitching prospect. He was so highly coveted by other teams that he was the crown jewel that the Mets sent to the Houston Astros in order to obtain Mike Hampton.

New York Mets traded reserve catcher/first baseman, Jason Phillips to the Los Angeles Dodgers for starting pitcher, Kaz Ishii on March 20, 2005.

And while you continue to scan the Internet for word of Oliver Perez’s impending release, just remember that there are just 12 John Stearns Days remaining until the Mets open the 2011 season against the Florida Marlins in Miami, and only 19 days until the Mets 2011 home opener against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.

Mo Vaughn is delighted at the prospect that he may be replaced by Oliver Perez as the butt of Mets fans jokes !!! ( Not so fast big man !!!)

Everyday I sign on looking for the word on Perez’s release and every morning…nothing.

So for now, I’m going with Zeppelin’s ‘The Song Remains The Same’.

    1. rustyjr

      lol good one

  2. Mr North Jersey

The song I would add is Nina Simone’s – Sinnerman

Reading this morning’s comments from Adam Rubin relating his information that the Mets will NOT be making any roster moves today was a cold slap in the face,

I’d gone to bed in the hope that tonight’s official start (11:21 PM) to the vernal equinox would bring with it a reason for excitement and new beginnings as I prepared to celebrate “Welcome to Spring (an annual season of hope and endless possibilities for the Mets)/Goodbye to Ollie (an end to insufferable torture left upon we Mets fans by Omar Minaya and friends).” But NOOOOOO… The Mets “new regime” has decided that an additional period of torture is best for one of the most loyal fan bases in baseball. Thanks for that Fred, Jeff, Katzy, Saldy, JP, Terry et al.

As for Goodbye Oliver Perez’ departure dirges, I had a few more, Ed, that I thought might deserve honorable mention on your list.

Hit the Road Jack – Ray Charles
Go Your Own Way – Fleetwood Mac
    “Time for Change” Motley Crue
    Run Runaway – Slade
Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) – Motley Crue
    Just Go Away – Blondie
Your Guts (I Hate “Em) – Reel Big Fish
    Ramble On – Led Zeppelin
On the Road Again – Willie Nelson

And my own “UN Tribute” in great anticipation of the necessary release of the overpaid, under productive, receiver of 2nd, 3rd, 4th ….chances Oliver Perez… http://bit.ly/hFV01l

“most loyal fan bases in baseball”?

Based on what do you say that?

I know it’s not based on attendance cause fans don’t go to games in large portions unless the product on the field is good.

attendance variations happen for every team, even the ones with truly “loyal” fans. Some not as much though (Cubs come to mind, but they are more like an event with Wrigley than a sports team).

though you are right, at least based on some of the regular posters at various blogs, the mets seem to have quite a few fans that frankly despise the team!

    songs?

In honor of a certain number of met “fans” that post on certain sites,

    “lunatic fringe” by Red Rider

  6. hazmet

Well off the top of my head:

“Suicide Solution”: Ozzie (O. Perez is no solution….) I can hear it now.
SinceTom Petty was mentioned: “Don’t Come Around Here No More”

      Alright, insulting but:

      “Hey Stoopid” Alice Cooper

well, here is a blogger that (seems) to be on the other side of the Ollie fence! Of course, if there were any GMs that felt the same way, he would have been moved by now. And not sure any of the names mentioned had to be reduced to a loogy, and only vs. very bad lefties, before they found themselves!
