No surprises here.
Not a good start by Carrasco: single, double, double, triple and Marlins still batting.
3/25/2011-1:32pm at 1:32 pm (UTC -4)
its funny, the one reliever Sandy gives a MLB deal to is one that deserves to be sent to AAA…
3/25/2011-1:41pm at 1:41 pm (UTC -4)
buccholz got a ML deal too. At least he is working out!
Carrasco looked good his last start. Who knows what you get with him.
Still, not a big enough deal to handcuff them long term. And of course, a good example of why you don’t give LT deals to RPs that aren’t special!

the contract isn’t an issue at all, I just wouldnt put him on the team over Acosta, Boyer or Isringhausen but we dont really have a choice…
3/25/2011-1:42pm at 1:42 pm (UTC -4)
one thing I have noticed this spring (I think, unless I am imagining it). Seems like the Met pitchers have cut way down on the walks.

I’ve been watching the Phils-Braves pre-season tilt on ESPN and watching a relatively slow ground ball to the right side slither between a diving Howard and diving Castillo and almost stopped rolling by the time the right fielder picked it up brought an ear to ear grin to my face.
3/25/2011-2:10pm at 2:10 pm (UTC -4)
If Castillo is their 2nd baseman this year, the Phills better get used to this.
I’m watching on ESPN too.
3/25/2011-2:18pm at 2:18 pm (UTC -4)
Well, I was watching the game. Technically difficulties and I’ve seen about a dozen commercials right now. I guess they can’t figure out the problem.
3/25/2011-2:06pm at 2:06 pm (UTC -4)
Oh, btw – Slappy swung at his first pitch and hit a weak slappariffic fly to left while batting lefthanded.
3/25/2011-2:15pm at 2:15 pm (UTC -4)
Have you heard? the Byrd is the word! Byrd Byrd Byrd..
A-well-a, everybody’s heard about the Byrd
Byrd , Byrd , Byrd , b-byrd’s the word
3/25/2011-2:17pm at 2:17 pm (UTC -4)
LOL….that damn song stuck in my mind for a day when I saw that episode. Thanks for putting it back there.
3/25/2011-2:21pm at 2:21 pm (UTC -4)
get used to it, because at least at Digital Domain Park, they played it when Brydak got in.
3/25/2011-2:29pm at 2:29 pm (UTC -4)
Misch doing his best to ensure he does not get claimed.
3/25/2011-2:33pm at 2:33 pm (UTC -4)
So I’m seeing.
He’d be nice for depth in AAA if he doesn’t get claimed. Like for a spot start. If we need him for long term, well….then we’re having problems.
3/25/2011-3:28pm at 3:28 pm (UTC -4)
gotta love ST. rooting for specific guys to do bad so you can get them placed where you want them!
hopefully Misch does clear and go down. He will be back at some point.
pissed though that all of a sudden millwood doesn’t require 4mill, but will take a MiL with the yankers?
3/25/2011-3:33pm at 3:33 pm (UTC -4)
I guess he just wants a job with a week to go.
Gotta love ESPN – not.
Listening to these guys for the Phillies game.
-’Great job by Castillo today. Got on base a couple of times’.
Talking about the team being ‘beat up a little’. Said with Utley out, Lidge on the DL to start the season, you don’t want to falter in April, with having to find yourself in the position of picking up games in the dog days of summer in Aug. They follow it up with ‘But Philly won’t find themselves in that position’.
Interviews from the Phillies during and after the broadcast was along the lines of they’ll be O.K. if Polanco stays healthy and they get Lidge back in a few weeks, maybe even Utley mid season.
LOL….sounds like the Mets 2009.
3/25/2011-3:37pm at 3:37 pm (UTC -4)
from seeing and reading the Philly local media, they really have retreated into the “it doesn’t matter about the offense, defense or pen, the 4 aces will carry us” territory.
Pretty sure if 1 of these guys go down they will start sweating bullets, and if they lose 2 it will be a wide spread panic meltdown.
and slappy was 1-2 with 2 walks. And of course, it is ST, so it doesn’t really matter!
just thinking of the Phils with Castillo everyday instead of Utley the Met killer warms my cold little heart.
3/25/2011-3:52pm at 3:52 pm (UTC -4)
The thought’s not as warming as them trotting out Valdez or Eckstein. But yeah.
They don’t have to lose two, Oswalt tweaks a hamstring and HAmels reverts to average again. Oh, and they give Halladay Santana-esque run support and he only wins 18 of his 35 starts.
3/25/2011-4:01pm at 4:01 pm (UTC -4)
I know it is whistling past the graveyard, but hamels has been up and down the last couple of years, and lee and oswalt do have back issues. Hell, Halladay was pitching with shoulder and groin problems at the end of the playoffs last year.
so yes, there is certainly a reasonable chance that the Phils don’t have 4 aces carrying them all year!
3/25/2011-4:48pm at 4:48 pm (UTC -4)
I believe I saw where Halladay pitched into the 9th inning his last ST start. Now why the heck would Charlie do that? What….Doc needs to get his work in?
You know someday that arm is just gonna fall off. Either that or it will be in the Smithsonian along with Ryan’s.
3/25/2011-5:11pm at 5:11 pm (UTC -4)
low pitch count. He probably had to go that deep to get up to 100!
3/25/2011-3:31pm at 3:31 pm (UTC -4)
I think Beato has now cemented a job, barring an unforeseen meltdown.
K rod, Byrdak, Carrasco, Beato, parnell, Buccholz.
Mish, acosta, boyer, izzy for the last spot.
would not mind seeing boyer get it, izzy on the DL if he isn’t fully ready, and the other 2 waived, with at least Misch clearing and going to AAA.
3/25/2011-3:34pm at 3:34 pm (UTC -4)
I know this is only ST, and many of the guys involved won’t even be on the team, but it is nice to see the mets making comebacks and having big innings for a change. The offense has been so sporadic the last few years, it got depressing.
3/25/2011-3:41pm at 3:41 pm (UTC -4)
Almost a nice comeback. But since I’ve either never heard or barely heard of those guys up at batter, no worries.
3/25/2011-3:35pm at 3:35 pm (UTC -4)
J. Glenn PH in the 9th for Beato.
Who is J. Glenn??
3/25/2011-3:38pm at 3:38 pm (UTC -4)
John glenn, astronaut. Remember that other big event in 1969, that involved the moon?
3/25/2011-3:54pm at 3:54 pm (UTC -4)
lol…I knew someone would go there.
