I’ve been watching the Phils-Braves pre-season tilt on ESPN and watching a relatively slow ground ball to the right side slither between a diving Howard and diving Castillo and almost stopped rolling by the time the right fielder picked it up brought an ear to ear grin to my face.
So I’m seeing.
He’d be nice for depth in AAA if he doesn’t get claimed. Like for a spot start. If we need him for long term, well….then we’re having problems.
Gotta love ESPN – not.
Listening to these guys for the Phillies game.
-’Great job by Castillo today. Got on base a couple of times’.
Talking about the team being ‘beat up a little’. Said with Utley out, Lidge on the DL to start the season, you don’t want to falter in April, with having to find yourself in the position of picking up games in the dog days of summer in Aug. They follow it up with ‘But Philly won’t find themselves in that position’.
Interviews from the Phillies during and after the broadcast was along the lines of they’ll be O.K. if Polanco stays healthy and they get Lidge back in a few weeks, maybe even Utley mid season.
LOL….sounds like the Mets 2009.

from seeing and reading the Philly local media, they really have retreated into the “it doesn’t matter about the offense, defense or pen, the 4 aces will carry us” territory.
Pretty sure if 1 of these guys go down they will start sweating bullets, and if they lose 2 it will be a wide spread panic meltdown.
and slappy was 1-2 with 2 walks. And of course, it is ST, so it doesn’t really matter!
just thinking of the Phils with Castillo everyday instead of Utley the Met killer warms my cold little heart.
The thought’s not as warming as them trotting out Valdez or Eckstein. But yeah.
They don’t have to lose two, Oswalt tweaks a hamstring and HAmels reverts to average again. Oh, and they give Halladay Santana-esque run support and he only wins 18 of his 35 starts.

I know it is whistling past the graveyard, but hamels has been up and down the last couple of years, and lee and oswalt do have back issues. Hell, Halladay was pitching with shoulder and groin problems at the end of the playoffs last year.
so yes, there is certainly a reasonable chance that the Phils don’t have 4 aces carrying them all year!

I believe I saw where Halladay pitched into the 9th inning his last ST start. Now why the heck would Charlie do that? What….Doc needs to get his work in?
You know someday that arm is just gonna fall off. Either that or it will be in the Smithsonian along with Ryan’s.

low pitch count. He probably had to go that deep to get up to 100!
I know this is only ST, and many of the guys involved won’t even be on the team, but it is nice to see the mets making comebacks and having big innings for a change. The offense has been so sporadic the last few years, it got depressing.

No surprises here.
Not a good start by Carrasco: single, double, double, triple and Marlins still batting.

its funny, the one reliever Sandy gives a MLB deal to is one that deserves to be sent to AAA…

buccholz got a ML deal too. At least he is working out!
Carrasco looked good his last start. Who knows what you get with him.
Still, not a big enough deal to handcuff them long term. And of course, a good example of why you don’t give LT deals to RPs that aren’t special!

the contract isn’t an issue at all, I just wouldnt put him on the team over Acosta, Boyer or Isringhausen but we dont really have a choice…

one thing I have noticed this spring (I think, unless I am imagining it). Seems like the Met pitchers have cut way down on the walks.

If Castillo is their 2nd baseman this year, the Phills better get used to this.
I’m watching on ESPN too.

Well, I was watching the game. Technically difficulties and I’ve seen about a dozen commercials right now. I guess they can’t figure out the problem.

Oh, btw – Slappy swung at his first pitch and hit a weak slappariffic fly to left while batting lefthanded.

gotta love ST. rooting for specific guys to do bad so you can get them placed where you want them!
hopefully Misch does clear and go down. He will be back at some point.
pissed though that all of a sudden millwood doesn’t require 4mill, but will take a MiL with the yankers?

I think Beato has now cemented a job, barring an unforeseen meltdown.
K rod, Byrdak, Carrasco, Beato, parnell, Buccholz.
Mish, acosta, boyer, izzy for the last spot.
would not mind seeing boyer get it, izzy on the DL if he isn’t fully ready, and the other 2 waived, with at least Misch clearing and going to AAA.
