Real glad that Evans cleared. Duda replacing Bay is a no-brainer, it’s great to have capable replacements coming from the farm. Don’t have a problem with Thole hitting 2nd, great contact hitter.

  2. stickguy

Agreed that it is nice to still have Evans in reserve. Guess all the worry about cutting him was for naught.

And nice to see my man Duda getting his shot. remember, i am on record as saying if he got a starting gig opening day, and got to play the whole season, he would win the ROY award. So feel free to throw that in my face when it doesn’t happen.

interesting about hitting Thole 2nd. Do like Pagan up there, but I guess the logic is adding some more run production in the middle, and to break up all the lefties.

Reyes, Thole, wright, beltran, davis, pagan, duda, Emauss? Is that what they are thinking?

will be interesting to see what Collins comes up with. And also how long Bay is likely to be out.

    1. metsfan4decades

Ha! I thought about you when I saw Duda will be replacing Bay.

Glad we’re keeping Evans for depth. Man, that young man has to be wondering if he’ll ever get on a ML roster?

      1. stickguy

AAA is still better than schlepping boxes in a warehouse for a living.

  3. stickguy

Oh, and not worried about Hernandez walking, if he thinks he can find a better gig elsewhere. maybe Philly, they seem to run short of IFs a lot these days.

    1. Ceetar

and they like Mets cast offs.

  4. TRS86

Oh butttt….. ohhhhhhhh Evans. Again, I like Evans but I think we overvalue some of our mediocre players just a liiiiiiitle too much.

Glad he is in AAA to protect against an Ike or Hairston injury. That’s about his chances of a call up though.

  5. njstuckintx

SI_JonHeymanSI_JonHeyman: bay will be placed on dl as soon as he gets off plane to hear news. lucas duda, whose name backwards is a dud, replaces bay.

noj namyeh is a gab ehcuod.

    1. metsgirl31

THIS made me laugh…thank you! :-)

      1. Mr North Jersey

        Wow long time no see.

        LGM!!!

        1. metsgirl31

I’ve been here…reading and soaking up all the knowledge. Looking forward to a new season.

          1. Mr North Jersey

“Looking forward to a new season.”

            Same here.

          2. metsfan4decades

Glad to hear it. Don’t forget about the Dugout. Hoping the regulars will be there.

          3. metsgirl31

Planning on it but probably not Friday nite. Figures the one Friday nite I actually have plans. Ugh!

    2. kistics

I really hope the Mets prove all these guys wrong.

  6. kingman 26

So does this mean Luis Hernandez is no longer competing to be the Mets’ starting second baseman??

    1. Mr North Jersey

Dude you still carrying that Puma post on your shoulder?

Talk about getting under your skin. Puma is way up in there.

      1. kingman 26

        Not even a bit.

I think it is all HILARIOUS.

BTW, the headline of the post should read

“Here IS The Latest Mets Roster News”

        1. TRS86

While correct, I think we can change each others titles. Correct?

          1. kingman 26

I am not so sure about that….I don’t think I can change his.

            Am I wrong?

          2. TRS86

Well I know I can but I am special. :)

          3. Mr North Jersey

don’t all authors have access to edit each other’s posts?

          4. TRS86

            Thought so.

          5. Mr North Jersey

I think then Kingy should definitely test to see if he can fix my posts then cause God Knows my education will not meet the criteria when it comes to proper grammar.

I think I said already I have no problem having someone proof read my posts but no one stepped up to do so. My offer still stands.

Is rather than are will most likely happen again. So maybe i will just not post anything then and just let you guys handle it.

          6. Ceetar

Don’t think so, not ‘regular’ authors anyway.

          7. TRS86

NJ, not a big deal in my opinion. To me I would rather just police each other. LOL, but now I feel bad about correcting it for you.

        2. Mr North Jersey

Feel free to correct it. I am fine with it as is since the point is made and I don’t see anyone else than you bringing it up.

As far as you mentioning the Puma post. OK sure you mention it cause its hilarious. That’s what it must be.

          1. TRS86

Actually this thing on Puma I was going to mention too. One it was so out there and he proclaimed it so loudly that he set himself up for it. Two I think you were one of the ones to say to go back and look to see what they got right and what they got wrong. So I am doing that. He’s down 0-1. LOL.

          2. kingman 26

Well Mr N, what I think is hilarious is that some folks take the beat writers’ nonsense so seriously and act as though every article is seriously sourced.

I guess we don’t understand each others’ intentions really well on the internet, but I know many others (Rusty, NJTX, Haz, Fong, Prismo and hopefully TRS) realize that a HUGE percentage of my comments are meant to be sarcastic and funny.

I laugh at Puma and Rubin. They don’t “bother” me or “get under my skin.”

The ONLY time I even have ANY IDEA what drivel they spew is when you or MF4D or someone else here posts it here so I see it.

I would rather sit and look at a wall than actually make my way to Rubin or Puma’s page.

            OK?

    2. TRS86

Yes and due to that fact Terry Collins has taken his balls and went home.

      1. kingman 26

        LOL!

  7. metsfan4decades

What is the injury to Bay – anyone know yet?

    1. TRS86

No, based on tweets he does not even know he is being Dl’d. I find that one hard to believe.

    2. Mr North Jersey

      Nothing official yet 4d.

    3. kingman 26

Torn hamstring from running in CF.

      :-)

      KIDDING!!!

  8. kistics

Thole batting 2nd mean anything? I think it’s a pretty good move with Bay out of the lineup.

    1. TRS86

Thole seems logical but then I think I would rather go
Reyes, Pagan, Wright, Beltran, Ike, and be what may vs RH. If you want to switch it up against LH so be it.

  9. kistics

Just in case you’re interested in buying Mets tickets, go on Stubhub and you can find so many tickets way under face value for so many games. Especially for weekday games.

  10. TRS86

    LOL, Steve Popper just ask….

“You have no trust in me? The Mets were very careful not to say this officially. But we do work. They are trying to reach him.”

Obviously he is not a reader of the site.
I still find it naive at best that all of the media knows, millions of people around the world know through twitter that Bay is going on the DL but Bay doesn’t.

    1. Ceetar

Lots of planes have internet access. But it’s not that easy to contact someone _on_ a plane, and you’re not gonna email someone ‘hey you’re dl’d” (it’s probably jbay@nymets.com actually. I should email him that right now)

But like I said, he was in the doctors office, whether or not they told him the results before he left, he was still examined by a doctor, he still knows he was in pain, or is in pain. It’s just severity. I’m sure he flew to NY expecting to be on the DL anyway.

      1. TRS86

Not saying the METS have not contacted him. However, I am almost 100% certain that someone has let him know.

      2. metsfan4decades

If that were me, 2 plane trips in one day, you could reach me at the airport bar.

Jeeze, don’t they have facilities in FL for these tests? Can’t be cheaping out ’cause of insurance either. I’d have to assume the R/T airfare would negate that.

        1. hazmet

          I wouldn’t trust a Florida doctor with a 60 cent investment let alone a $60M one.

My sister fell on the beach in Florida a few years ago was rushed to the hospital because she couldn’t walk and they said oh your fine there’s nothing the matter just sore / whatever from the fall. Told her she was fine to fly and when she got back to Colorado she saw her doctor immediately and she had a broken hip. Un-f’in-believable. Dr. Ned from the Simpsons in the house. She actually had a deeper problem with her thyroid that it was stealing calcium from her bones and that’s what caused the weaking that lead to the break. And where did they find that…NY at the Hospital for Special Surgery. That’s why they bring these guy’s back to NY.

    2. stickguy

I believe at the time this all started popping up he was on the plane coming back to PSL. They do have XM, so quite possible he heard a report, but if he is on the they would not have been able to talk to him directly.

The guy happiest about this has to be Duda. Getting sent to miami instead of Buffalo at the end of march? Talk about an upgrade!

      1. Ceetar

he won’t get to see Niagara Falls though. It’s pretty in March.

depends what plane he’s on. and what he’s doing on said plane. Wonder if baseball players tune in to MLB Network or ESPN as ‘entertainment’

        1. TRS86

I just also assumed he could use a computer at some point?

          1. Ceetar

inflight? again, depends on what plane he’s on.

          2. saltygary

As someone that flies 10 trips a year it depends what airline you are on. I attempt to stay away from the dinosaurs and stick with jetBlue and Southwest but I’ve been on plenty of Delta and Continental flights over the last 2 years. SW just started to implement wifi and sometimes they give it for free and sometimes they don’t. Haven’t seen it on JB or CT yet but Delta has it for a cost.

Also there is probably a difference between a text that he got and the FO wanting to sit face to face and develop a better game-plan. These guys are all about accountability so I’m sure Bay has a wiff but they want to work with him directly so he feels like he has some say in the decision.

          3. hazmet

Delta’s pretty good. They fly alot of Embraer 135, 170 & 190′s. EMB-170′s has a flaw where water gets in the wing and pools up but no biggie. They’re pretty straight forward workhorses. I hate MD-80′s avoid the jump seat by the engines. If you look most have extra plating since they had occurences where the blade can snap and cut through the cabin. I say a prayer whenever I get a Bombardier plane. The Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 has an inflatable edge on the wing that they blow up to break ice off the wing as part of de-icing. Sometimes it doesn’t work. CRJ’s scare the crap out of me. I prefer flying metal, avoid composite where possible. Lastly, try not to fly the very first flight in the morning as the gaskets around the door may not have warmed up enough and the expansion when they warm can make the door fly open in flight. That’s what happened on a flight over the Pacific about 10 years ago. Yes, I hate to fly. Sometimes the less you know the better.

          4. saltygary

This is the last thing I ever wanted to read… I have become a really bad flyer. I used to love it but when I worked for Fleet Bank (now BOA) they referred to me as ballast. Whenever upper management wanted to justify using one of the corporate planes but needed an extra body it was always me because I could do my job in many locations and I lived on the air strip in Providence. Their pilots were ex-military and they loved bad weather because it meant they could fly the plane. I had some crazy Buddy Holly experiences and those situations scarred me for life. Now I have to take a chill pill so I don’t pull a John Lithgow in the twilight zone.

I actually don’t mind the MD-80′s that continental flies. Lots of yaw but I’ll take that over a prop any day. Embraer makes a great plane. Just really solid and never any problems in my experience. I fly the first flight a lot and your concerns are my fears. I would think that if there is a problem it would be with the first flight when things are first booted up.

My true test will be next month when I take my 2 kids to Orlando for 8 days in Disney but my wife will already be down there working a conference. My kids have been on many flights but mommy bucks up so I can stay mellow.

          5. hazmet

lol Salty – I hear ya. If the Corporate Jet was a Gulfstream yum central. I’ve worked with them and one of their claims to fame is you can take half the rivets out of the plane and it will still fly. That’s an absolutely sick statement but a testament to a plane that grew out of a Navy Jet platform. Embraer’s are really good but man they are a pain in the ass to work with. Very difficult to trust on development programs. Good people but their management style has changed as they’ve gotten bigger.

  11. wannybackstra

Is it possible someone in the Mets organization told Puma of Collins’ preference and then either Collins was overruled or changed his mind?

Is it so far-fetched? This stuff with the reporters on this site is so out of hand.

    1. saltygary

That’s the one thing that has irked me out about this place. We rely on media to get information but in the eyes of many they are all unreliable no talent hacks. Many of these guys work really hard to unearth information and they do know more than us. It’s ok to be skeptical about what we read and dissect the information but the consistent trashing in out of hand.

A month ago I tried to I got a good discussion on Buster Olney and why he had to change his reporting style to a specific tailored format and in the end it was still concluded that he was a hack by most.

      1. stickguy

I don’t really care that much, but my impression is that it often is not the speciifc “fact” being reported, which most people probably do realize is based on some level of rumor or guesswork (which is fine), but the way it is reported. creating a controversy that does not exist, treating their WAG interpretation as real news, and frankly often making snarky comments/digs that reduce their credibility as journalists.

There was always some level of rumor trolling in covering a team, but it just seems that in the past, it was presented more as “a couple of course alluded to X, and after poking around, my guess is that it might mean Y”. Now, it is Oh, X happeneded, Y is true, and let me through in some negative comments and digs about the team that have nothing to do with the story.

    2. TRS86

It’s possible but very far fetched. The point of laughing about Puma’s article is how loudly he proclaimed it and how then many other beat writers and bloggers turned it into a soap-opera of how Collins and Sandy do not see eye to eye and there is dissension ….. In other words he made up a controversy that took a life of it’s own out of something that most likely never happen.
