A…Duh. Chris Young was excellent last night, going 5.1 IP with 7 k’s and giving up only 1 ER. Not only did he set a Met record for getting 2 hits in the same inning(3rd), the last Met pitcher to have 3 hits in a game was Tommy G in 2005…not bad for a debut. One scout called the signing of Chris Young “…best signings of the winter“, Mike Nickeas, called it “sparkling.”, Angel Pagan, called it “unbelievable.” Whatever you want to call his outing for the Mets last night, it was nothing short of what the Mets needed in Philly. If he can stay healthy, he should be the #1 pitcher on this staff in my opinion.
While Chris Young made a case to get two birds for one stone last night with the MUA’s, David Wright was not about to let him have all the fun. David finished with 4 hits, 2 RBI’s and a stolen base. I dont know about you but David looks like a different person up there. Keith mentioned David abandoned a sort of “lift” swing and got back to his old style of hitting. Not sure who REALLY gets credit for that one but very well done. David looked poised to have a monster season and perhaps develop the “carry the team on my back” trait that many people(I believe unjustifiably so) crucified him for the last few years. No need to emphasize how important his bat is to this team…you can see it night in and night out.
DJ “Fireman” Carrassco continues to be awesome out of the pen, going 1.2 innings of scoreless relief
Scott Hairston getting his first hit as a Met for an RBI
Ike Davis and Brad Emaus also contributing for an RBI a piece
