A message to Sandy Alderson: Please don’t release Jason Isringhausen!

Do you want to see him in Philly?

The news came out yesterday and it’s bad for the Phillies.  Brad Lidge is out until the All-Star Break.  And even though they say he’ll be back, that doesn’t mean he’ll be the same.

So I’m sending a message to the Front Office and Sandy, DON”T RELEASE JASON ISRINGHAUSEN!

Right now the Phillies, even with their “steller” pitching and hitting, are basically bottom feeders when it comes down to acquiring players.  If anyone tells me that they have a farm team ( which I know they don’t because they pretty much traded it all for their pitching) I’ve got one name for them…Luis Castillo.  Because let’s face it, there is no way in the world anyone wanted to even look at Luis unless they were pretty desperate and I think the Phillies were when they learned that Chase Utley might be out for a very long time.

I’ll say this, if the Phillies are looking for another arm, especially someone with closing experience, then Jason Isengrehausen would be the perfect candidate.  He’s got the fortitude of a closer and is looking to pitch so I think the Mets have to be careful here.

Thoughts?

Not concerned at all about Izzy going and making the difference for the Phillies to pull out a win over the Mets. He’s a nice story but just an afterthought.

Isn’t it really Izzy’s call if the Phillies approach him?

Mets have right of first refusal.

      1. kistics

Right, but if the Phillies approach him after 2 weeks (one more week left), who is going to be the odd man out? I can’t see them making roster moves after first 2 weeks unless someone really really bombs it.

Well, that would of course require Sandy to release him and then Izzy most likely then reporting to Philly AAA. I can’t see them sending the guy in there.

he already said he isn’t going to AAA. It would have to be a ML deal to start, or he is going home (subject of course to the magic pull of Philly changing his mind).

Right but my point is that considering our pen, I don’ t see Philly likely to move anyone down to accommodate Izzy. If so oh well.

good point. I expect Philly to pick up Kathy Black for education within nxt week…….

        How about Saving Private Ryan?

I think we’re all going to have to get used to seeing some players we might not want to lose, in different uniforms very soon.

I’m not thrilled with the BP right now and if Izzy’s arm is ready to go, I’d like to see him up here. Not sure at whose expense that would be though.

Eh… not buying the hype about the Mets having a firesell at all. We shall see.

according to a source familiar with the negotiation, quoted by the Daily News, the Mets have narrowed their search for an investor to eight groups, all of whom have been vetted by MLB, and who’s bids are now in the hands of the Mets.

But uh… uhhhhh…. no one would want to invest in the Mets…

      Keep hope alive!

I’m not concerned about the Phillies grabbing Izzy as much as I am about the Mets losing BP depth if Izzy were to go. He won’t make a big difference in Philly and would probably help us more than them.

Mes think we actually need depth before we can lose it……………
      ……………….Just sayin’

      1. wannybackstra

That’s another way of saying the same thing. We can’t afford to lose anyone who might be able to give a few innings out of that pen. The problem is started by mediocre talent in the pen and confounded by mediocre talent in the rotation placing a greater demand in the pen.

        1. metsfan4decades

          Bingo.

        2. stickguy

in philly, the SP pitched 11-1/3 innings and the pen 13-2/3. That is a recipe for disaster for most any team. Except the phils of course. they seemed to do fine with it.

I don’t even know at this point if they would like Izzy more than the guys they already have, or in their case, who can be sent down.

but mostly, I have no confidence Izzy can go more than 2 weeks getting regular game work, without hitting the DL!

          1. TRS86

            Agreed.

    2. TRS86

Agreed. To me Izzy is a nice to have guy but not sure how they keep him or who they send down in order to keep him. If we determine that we can’t make room, I really don’t care where he signs if he does at all.

      1. stickguy

they also now have Acosta and Iggy waiting in the AAA wings, along with whatever MiL guys are pitching well as the season goes along. So they do have some viable depth, that is at least as good as Izzy at this point.

        1. TRS86

Did they finally make a post about Acosta? I missed it.

          1. metsfan4decades

            yes, post/tweet on here yesterday:

Acosta Clears Waivers Is Headed For AAA

          2. TRS86

Ah thanks, I was out most of last night.
