Happy Opening Day All. Let us begin….
Syracuse 8, Buffalo 5
Dillon Gee (4.2 innings, 7 runs, 5 earned, 3 hits, 4 BB, 4K’s) got off to a rough start but wasn’t helped by a Ruben Tejada throwing error, though Ruben did go 2 for 3 with a triple and 3RBI’s. In other news, Fernando “Ol’ Gonzo Nose” Martinez went 4 for 5 with a run scored. Zach Lutz and Kirk Niewenhuis both had a hit and an RBI
Binghamton 1, Akron 0
Josh Stinson, Ricky Brooks, Roy Merritt and John Lujan combined for the shutout, allowing just four hits. The B-Mets, however, were held to just three hits themselves. Brahaim Maldonado did double to set up the game’s only run.
St Lucie 1, Palm Beach 0
Another 1-o score! Another win! Welcome to the big leagues Matt Harvey, who went 5 innings allowing no runs on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 9 (!). All the better, he outdueled top Cardinals prospect Shelby Miller, who took the loss. Mat Den Dekker went 2 for 4, and tallied the lone run of the game.
Savannah 8, West Virginia 0
Another shutout! This time Greg Peavey (5 innings, no runs, two hits, 1BB, 8K’s), Ronny Morla, and Gabriel Zavala combined for the shutout. Darrell Ceciliani went 2 for 5 with a 2 run HR, Corey Vaughn went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, Sam Honeck had three hits and 2 RBI’s, while Alonzo Harris chipped in two hits and Javier Rodriguez homered. Balanced attack overall….
That is all.
