Post Game Mets 8 Nats 4: The Return Of Tron

It appears that not only is Terry Collins not Jerry Manuel, he’s also psychotic psychic.   According to Collins after last nights game Beltran was going to break out soon.  Tonight consider Carlos Beltran having broken out after hitting a two run homerun in the 1st and a solo shot in the 4th.  He was also involved in a strange play in the 6th inning where he hit a rope to LF where Jerry Hairston JR basically missed the ball.  I am not sure he even got a glove on it.  It was ruled an error which set up 2 men on for Ike Davis.  Davis calmly came up and blasted his second career triple in the RF gap scoring 2 runs.  That same inning Murphy lined a single allowing another run to score.

Jose Reyes had 2 first for 2011 today.  He took his first walk of the year in the first inning and got his first RBIs of the year in the 8th inning lining a 2 out 2 run double to LF.  This was after Krod has struck-out for the 2nd out…. yeah you read that right.  Krod got a chance to bat with the bases loaded.  Honestly I was not sure if I liked the fact that he was given the opportunity to bat with the bases loaded in a 2 run game.  However, the Mets had exhausted a lot of PH options and any likely closing options as well.  Krod had came in to close out the 8th inning for Bobby Parnell who had gotten into a little trouble but had retired 2 batters in a row before Matt Stairs came in to PH.  Krod retired Stairs on 2 pitches leaving him fresh for the 9th.  He did make it a little interesting in the 9th with back to back walks with a 4 run lead before getting Jayson Werth to ground into a double play and striking out Ryan Zimmerman.

Final Score Mets 8 Nats 4.

mets always pound marquis, don’t they? And if not, start now, since he sucks.

also, once they brought in K Rod for the 8th, he was hitting no matter what, since it was a guarantee he was doing the 9th also.

    That was fun.
So many things to like tonight.
I didn’t think we’d get many runs with that bottom of that order and other than Beltran, didn’t look good there in the early innings. Finally got a couple of big hits though, which have been M.I.A.

Pagan doesn’t look comfortable yet and a couple of weak throws from the OF from him this young season has me wondering…

Nice outing from Cap. The HR balls…is that a tendency of his? If yes, hope it won’t be a problem at some of these road parks.

If Parnell and Krod will be the 8th and 9th guys, I wonder if we’ll see many 1-2-3 innings? Jeeze, that was scary.

I was hoping that buchholz would keep it up and eventually nail down the 8th. still can happen.

not too worried about cap. he has to be rusty at this point.

On Cap…maybe but didn’t he give up his fair share of HRs in ST too?

The few hits and Ks were great but if his tendency is the long ball, here’s hoping he can limit them to the solo variety.

Heard Cap’s post game interview and he did admit he was a work in progress so to speak. Sounds like he knows what he needs to work on. Hopefully, he does just that.

    Couple things to point out.

Pagan’s lower body has way too much movement at the plate. Hopefully Reyes continues get his walks. Hairston and Duda still look very tight at the plate. Parnell seems to be over throwing and his slider looks pretty bad since his first appearance. Nikeas is terrible at the plate.

other than Nickeas, who will always stink at the plate, the other items are certainly easily curable.
