This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The ” Beautiful Day For Baseball” Edition 04-09-11

Look I know yesterday was a bad loss to a brutally bad team, but I am happy that baseball finally has returned to Flushing.

I started my day along with my wife tailgating  with my twitter friend Albert Aguero along with his son and about ten friends. I bumped into fellow Mets blogger in arms, Howard Medgal  at the Shake Shack. Howard is quite possibly the hardest working sports journalist in the tri state area. I also bumped into fellow twitter friend Joe when I was getting my R.A Dickey jersey made at the team store.

My wife and I met up with fellow bloggers Taryn Cooper and her Husband Ed Leyro read their columns at Metsmerized Online and Studious Metsimus. Michael Baron from Mets Blog, Kerel Cooper from On The Black ,  by Staten Island neighbor Steve Keane from The Kranepool Society and Shannon from Mets Police were also there busting my chops for wearing shorts on a 40 degree day.

The biggest thrill of the day was seeing the frail Ralph Kiner  throw out the first pitch  ( a strike) – Yes unfortunately I missed the double play Jose Reyes turned because I was waiting on line to see E.T – oops I meant  the men’s room. I was disappointed with my fellow Mets fans for booing Frankie Rodriguez and Mike Pelfrey – I mean it’s Opening Day and neither of these guys are Ollie Perez … so lay off em okay ?!!?

All in all my team may not have won, but at least I spent it with people that have rapidly become members of my Mets family !!

And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today include :

Middle reliever, Jerry Hinsley is 66  (1945). he spent parts of the ’64 and ’67 seasons with the Mets.

Middle reliever from the ’03 season, Graeme Lloyd is 46 (1967) .

The New York Mets claimed reserve catcher, Greg Goossen on waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 9, 1965.

I caught Mo Vaughn pigging out on the deep fried Oreos at Citi Field Yesterday.

    Nice….A Dickey jersey…..good choice.

Wish I could have attended Opening Day but I’m just glad the season has started. Now if the weather would just warm up a tad.

    LGM!

Yeah wearing shorts in 40 degree weather was not the brightest thing I’ve ever done

Jeeze, Schneider just hit a HR for the Phillies to give them the lead? Schneider? And Valdez goes 4 for 4 in the game the other day.

What the heck is it that when every scrub leaves the Mets they wind up actually contributing to the team they’re on. I saw somewhere yesterday where the Nats minor league coach is claiming they’ve got Perez’s fb up to 90 mph.

If I didn’t know any better, I would swear the Mets are cursed.

If ollie comes back up this year throwing int he 90s with some kind of success, I want Warthen fired on the spot.

Shot, not fired. Well, a fired shot, at the least.

You know you’re not very good this year if the Yankees didn’t sign you.

I see they just picked up Carlos Silva to a Mil contract. Looks like they’ve picked up just about everything off the scrap heap to possibly help at some point with their starting rotation. Passing on Ollie says a lot.

Apparently Ollie thought the Nats had a better chance at the post season.

Would it make sense to flip Pagan and Reyes? AKA, Pagan, Reyes, Wright, Beltran, etc. etc.

I think so. I said that last year when the whole hit him 3rd debate was going on, that 2nd seemed like a better fit. maybe 5th now!

        can’t see 5th, but 2nd seems like a glove.
