Post Game: #Epic

Bullpen to the Mets: “I already got your money bro”

What started as an awesome pitching performance by Chris Young ended in epic fashion as an implosion by the Mets bullpen. Chris was damn near untouchable through 7, allowing 1 hit and 1 run on 5k’s. It was a different story for Nationals starter Jason Marquis, who got lit up for two runs in the 1st. He would settle down down for the majority of the game until the 5th when Ike singled to center to drive in Harris.

Fast forward to the 8th inning where DJ Carassco relieved Chris Young. Ivan Rodriguez doubled on a misplayed ball by Lucas Duda to open the frame. DJ got Nix to fly out but gave out one of the hundred many walks the rest of the game to Matt Stairs. In usual Met opponent style, Ian Desmond hit a single that drove in Ivan and moved Jerry(who came in to run for Stairs) to third. Ian would steal second without a throw. Executing fundies, Rick Ankiel grounded to 2nd which drove in the tying run and moved Ian to third. After all this damage was done, DJ was lifted for Buckholtz. Naturally, Buckholtz came in the game and walked both Jayson Werth and Adam Laroche before finally getting Mike Morse to strike out.

Fast forward to the bottom of the 10th(Rod Barajas isnt on the Mets to bail them out in the 9th). In what may be a picture of Reyes’ feet above(still trying to confirm this), Reyes lead off with a single. Alot has been said about Reyes’ tentativeness to steal…more will be said about it after he stayed on first while Harris struck out. Wright would ground out to third but Reyes moved onto third during the ground out(heads up play by some, not good fundies by Kieth). After a walk to Ike RBI Davis, Angel would strand the runner on 3rd with a ground out to 2nd.

In “shocking” fashion…well…lets just let Yahoo play by play tell the rest….

holy crap batman. Right after I posted a link to how the Bisons pen kicked ass today, the notes on all the moves pop up.

an eight man pen? interesting. Unless bay is coming back sooner than we thought?

if nothing else, you know that someone else in the pen is not long for the world. and now it almost has to be Parnell going down?

I would think with Duda being sent down and 2 pitchers being called up, the rest (minus KRod) are probably on notice.

If Bay is really coming back next weekend, one will have to go. Question is, will it be a hard decision b/c they all are stellar this week or b/c they all stink this week?

    Ha! Nice, Dirty…

I see the current post. Beat be to it. I was going to say it’s official and our BP sux. DFA Boyer and bring up Izzy.
I had a feeling b/c when they asked TC on the post game interview about Izzy he hesitated and said ‘it’s being considered’.

So….CY goes 7 innings giving up 1 hit/1 run. Leaves with a 2 run lead.
The BP comes in and gives up 6 runs. Six…..
We can talk about if Duda should have been in RF in the late innings with a small lead or why Reyes didn’t run in the 10th but bottom line is the BP blew this.

Of course, it didn’t help that the Mets had one hit after the 5th and struck out like 16 times.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.
