Good. The entire BP is suspect right about now.

    Per Rubin:

The Met bullpen has allowed 45 hits and walked 16 hitters and hit two batters in 33.1 innings.

That isn’t going to get it done.

Damn these guys work quick lol!
    I like sandy and co.

when the pen’s whip is perilously close to 2, you know things aren’t going well.

it is nice to see quick, decisive action on this. It always seemed with Omar that they would just wait too long to finally do something.

I also suspect this was always in the works (izzy replacing Boyer), and starting the year the way they did was to hedge their bets, making sure Izzy was OK to pitch, and to see what Boyer looked like in real games.

quite likely he clears waivers and ends up in AAA anyway.

one thing though, this must mean they only had 39 men on the 40 man roster, since Iggy and Izzy were both not on it, right? Izzy was a MiL signing, and iggy was removed when he cleared. Duda stays on, so that is a net loss of 1 spot.

Yes, I just read that somewhere about the 39 men on the 40 roster so believe you are right.

Agree with both you guys about the quick reaction here by Sandy.
He kind of stock piled arms for the BP probably knowing not all were going to work out – either b/c some where trying to prove themselves coming off injury and some had no ML experience, etc.

In years past, we didn’t have a whole lot of depth to quickly make a change.

Not surprised at the moves, but I’m a little surprised they happened so fast, I thought maybe another couple days. I would have liked to see Duda get 3 starts in a row to see if he could get going. I never thought Boyer would last long. Igarashi made quick work of things today getting a 4 out save in a 1 run game.

hopefully Duda gets to play everyday at AAA, and gets back into a groove mashing the ball. Assuming Bay is back in a week, and he and Beltran stay on the field, they won’t need a replacement any time soon.’

Now, when it gets to be July and Beltran may be on the move, then they can decide who looks like the best option (duda or F Mart) going forward.

      1. Prismo

You know…with Manny gone, one might think Beltran could be of great use to the Rays.

        Just sayin’.

They have the prospects, for sure. All or most of Beltran’s salary paid by the Mets for a prospect or 2? Would have helped a little if Duda was playing well enough to fill in should Beltran get shipped off.

I think considering the division they play in, they are more dead an irrelevant than the Mets. I don’t expect them to add much, just coast out the year and look at 2012.

There are a few teams though that could certainly use a bat like Tron for DH/RF.

Key is how healthy will he be? Will he be able to play enough OF to be a worthy of an NL team? He certainly would give the Braves or Phillies an edge, as well as a team like St. Louis whom I am sure would consider him a defensive GG in RF compared to Lance Berkman.

    Can someone please throw strikes!!!

Does anyone else think that Emaus may have gotten to the grounder that Pudge hit?

And why wasn’t Reyes stealing when he got on? And I think it’s time to keep Pagan at 2nd…

    1. metsfan4decades

Not sure about Emaus getting to that ball.
Agree about Reyes running – I don’t understand why he’s not being aggressive on the base paths at all this year.
I questioned why Duda was out in RF in the late innings with a small lead.

      Agree about Pagan.
Bay can’t get back fast enough. I think this line up tinkering in the early going isn’t helping things much.

    No messing around here.

    The Duda experiment flamed out.
    The Boyer experiment Hindenburged.
Let’s hope the Izzy experiment doesn’t do a Richard Pryor.

The Young signing is looking like a solid choice.

Anyone think if the BP continues to drop Napalm deuces on us all, and Mejia is throwing well, he gets a call up and Cap gets placed into the Baghdad palace that is the home of the beloved pen?

    1. Prismo

Have to claim sample size on Duda. He had 17 at bats, and none of it was with consistent playing time, so it means pretty much nothing.

However, many of us have said that Duda was overrated after what he did last season, so maybe there is a little vindication there. ;) (of course, we all would’ve been happy if he went 17-17 with 17 home runs)

      1. kistics

I just think he never got comfortable at the plate. I think if he has regular PT, we would see the full potential…

Or trade him to get some pitching help…

        1. TRS86

I think unless you are getting a top prospect (which you will not) and considering our likely path this year it would be foolish to trade Duda. Just keep the competition between him and Fmart going for heir to Beltran.

      2. njstuckintx

Stick had him going 18 for 17. :P
