Minor Leagues. Major games. Let’s dive in…
Buffalo 4, Scranton / Wilkes-Barre 0
Top prospect Jenry Mejia used his “jeater” to stymie the Yankees lineup, going a strong 6.2 shutout innings allowing only 3 hits and 3 BB’s while striking out 5. He has yet to give up a run this year in 12.2 innings. If this keeps up expect to hear people clamoring for him to be called up to the big club. It’s probably best for that not to happen until much later this season, if at all, but expect to start hearing about it soon. Jason Pridie and Justin Turner each had three hits with an RBI and a run, while Rueben Tejada went 2 for 3. Hey, guess which Bison outfielder is hurt with a sore hamstring? Here’s a hint: His name sounds like Mernando Fartinez.
Binghamton @ Erie, Rain Out
Remember when I said it never rains in the minor leagues? Remember when I threw in the caveat that that was not intended to be a factual statement? This is what I was talking about.
St. Lucie 5, Fort Myers 3
Wilmer Flores 9th inning RBI single broke a 3-3 tie to propel the Mets to victory. On the day, Flores was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI’s. Matt den Dekker also went 2 for 5 with two runs scored, including an insurance run in the 9th. Stefan Welch went 2 for 4 with a run scored. Jeryus Familia had a very strong outing (6IP, 1 run, 1 hit, 2BB, 6K), and his ERA is 0.69. Eric Beaulac got roughed up and gave up the lead in the 7th, but Brandon Sage and Jeffrey Kaplan (win and save, respectively) closed the door on the Miracle for the rest of the way.
Hickory 7, Savannah 5
Ouch. After leading most of the day, Gabriel Zavala gave up a three run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Crawdads the win. Sam Honeck went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI, Cory Vaughan was 2 for 3, and Blake Forsythe had a 2 run homerun. Yep – Darrell Ceciliani strained his hamstring and is on the DL.
