Want a laugh? Go read the comments at FWICG.com. Too much.

Stick and Ceetar—can you post how many pitches/swings/relievers we are from being 10–2, and how soon Collins will be able to start “cementing” wins??

      1. Ceetar

When they arrive in Philadelphia, they’ll have an outside chance to pass them in the division.

        1. kingman 26

Ceetar, I hope there are things in life you are better at than you are at talking about baseball–truly I do.

          1. Ceetar

I’m confident you wouldn’t know the difference.

          2. kingman 26

LOL! Yes, I am sure you are sir!

And I am sure there IS no difference!

HAHA–thanks for the meatball right down the middle—exactly what I expect from you!!

            Resume nonsense.

          3. Ceetar

You ceased spouting nonsense? could’ve fooled me.

          4. kingman 26

Calling you a clown would be a brutal offense to everyone Bozo has ever even TALKED to.

          5. Prismo

You guys should stop here before I get a string of nasty emails in my inbox followed by threats of ending commenting on the site.

          6. kingman 26

Sorry, sometimes life is too funny to let go.

            :-)

METS OVERTAKE PHILS BY APRIL 19TH!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. saltygary

    So sorry BUT…

THIS TEAM FUCKING SUCKS DIRTY GOAT NUTS.

    1. kingman 26

Oh come on, be reasonable—a hit there, a pitch there, and they are 11–2……Collins will start “cementing” wins any day now.

I think they might overtake the Phils BEFORE their next series!!

      :-)

      1. saltygary

        HAHAHA

        “but there have been signs”

      2. saltygary

My prediction of 73 wins is looking pretty good now, huh?

      3. Prismo

        Nah man, you’re way off.

Since they’re going to lose by at least 4 runs tonight, it’s likely they lose by less tomorrow, and are therefore improving!

It’s happening folks! This team is turning the corner!!

  7. metsfan4decades

After watching both these games, I’ve got nothing.

    Just…..nothing.

    1. kingman 26

MF4D—the worse they do, the quicker wholesale changes come.

The team’s bad. Omar’s legacy–we are paying Bay, Johan, KRod and Beltran approximately 70 mil this year.

      Cannot overcome that overnight.

We are going to win 75 games, finish 4th, and have almost an entirely new team in one year.

      There’s a silver lining, I promise.

    2. Prismo

      Well, what can you say.

They are who many of us thought they were.

A very mediocre team with flaws on offense, defense, starting pitching, and relief pitching.

Still a young team overall, so they can always turn it around and have an okay season, but so far it’s not looking great!

      1. stickguy

at this point, about the only thing to hope for is that the young guys don’t get all mopey and pack it in too.

I don’t care if they lose every game, anyone not busting their ass can hit the bricks too.

  8. hazmet

I like to think of myself as an eternal optimist when it comes to our Metsies but my god we suck. We suck beyond ways I thought we could suck. How could I have thought this team had promise this year seeing how we’re playing. Good lord we are Terryble.

    1. Prismo

      Haha! Terryble, I like it.

But we’ve been terrible under 3 managers, 2 GMs, and a few new sets of players (with a few exceptions).

Ya know what the 1 constant is? FRICKIN WILPONS!!! ;)

      1. hazmet

Yeah, “Terryble” is all i can muster…. just down, way down.

And yes, the Wilpons….maybe just maybe this horror show will lead to such a decrease at the gate, etc they will pack it in.

Is it really only April 14th?

      2. stickguy

my only hope for the future is that it takes a little while to reverse course from a prior GM. Hopefully sandy can do something with a trade deadline to work with, and a full off season. I hope.

  9. stickguy

I had the game on in the car until the top of (I think) the 5th (or 6th) whenever Tulo hit the HR to make it 4-3.

then just got back in now to check the final.

needless to say, it was depressing!

Even worse, they are heading to the house of horrors, and the odds are very good that they get swept, and hit the off day at 4-12, on a 9 game losing streak.

Carrasco Friday, Pelf Saturday? likely ugly, and into the pen early.

so that leaves it up to sore biceps Young on Sunday to be the stopper!

wonder if they win another game in April? No reason to think they will!

and the ultimate indignity, K Rod gets another GF> Should have put him in for the 8th

  10. saltygary

Whoever is responsible for the “post game” post, lets keep it way short and sweet for our general health OK?

    1. hazmet

      Like:

      Mets suck twice, Terry optimistic.

      1. saltygary

        + a million.

        1. Prismo

All I can think of is that Jim Leyland rant to the media which set the Tigers off that season (in a good way) and what I would kill to have Terry go off like that on the NY media. Of course, they’d probably find a way to use it against him. “Is the pressure of NY getting to Collins?”

          1. stickguy

at least they are getting away from NY now.

problem is, the weekend is likely to go very poorly, and they come right back home for next week.

with Monday the off day, expect it to be the day when the shat hits the fan, to whatever extent it is going to. player moves, blow ups, media head hunting, whatever.

          2. Prismo

            What do you do?

The pitching is just absolutely wrecking this team. Yes, we’re missing out on some clutch hitting, but overall they’ve scored runs. The Mets are 5th in the NL in runs scored per game, but the pitching…oh god the pitching.

            And who can save us?

          3. kingman 26

            No one can save us.

            Only time can.

It is not just the pitching.

We are playing with players like Hairston, Harris, and Emaus, who are borderline major leaguers. Beltran? He is fat and done. Bay? Definitely did not need to come to camp early.

And Pagan? Still a top ten outfielder? LOL!

Only time can right this ship.

          4. stickguy

and, is monday too early to throw warthen to the wolves?

  11. kistics

I agree with MC on one thing. How come no one tried to knock Tulo on his ass after he has pooped all over this team? Might not be pretty but c’mon.. the dude was getting way too comfortable at the plate.

Maybe this team IS bad… Pirates and Royals bad… 70 win team maybe? I mean the Rockies completely dominated this team in every aspect of the game. They pitched better, hit better, played better defense, out managed, etc etc… Rockies clearly had much more talent than the Mets.

I need to get away from baseball for tonight.. no MLB network or ESPN.. maybe watch Art Mann Presents…

    1. stickguy

and with all that, 3 of the losses were 1 run games, so it was far from a domination.

      1. gategem

Unfortunately bad teams generally are not dominated day in and day out. I have observed that they are very rarely dominated by other teams. It just seems that they always find a way to lose.

What worries me the most is the scenario you suggested that a poor start will result in poor attendance causing a cash strapped management to strip the team bare.

        1. stickguy

at this point, is a stripping even that bad? I would prefer reyes back, and the only other (expensive) guy I care about is Wright.

beyond that, the keys I want to keep (davis, neise, thole) are all cheap and won’t be going anywhere.

          1. njstuckintx

Well, you need to factor in Niese as well. I do not think there is another one to keep on a “keeper list”. Even Thole I would ship off, no worries. His only saving grace is that the Mets system is about as barren as can be for quality depth at that position.

It’s still way early to figure on who would be buyers vs. sellers, but someone mentioned TB the other day. If they can start playing the way they are known to, maybe they’d part with some talent for a cheap rental. All I know is I’d be listening to whatever offers come about. Right deal for Pelf, sure. 10 cents on the dollar for Beltran for a prospect or 2, absolutely. Young (who seems to be the only competent pitcher these days) would be a big chip in my book. If he proves himself healthy, he may be worth an extension, but I’d listen to whatever someone had to offer.

Until Bay starts playing, he’s got no value whatsoever.

And Emaus has to be benched for Go Big Murph. Emaus isn’t bringing anything to the table.

          2. kistics

You are completely kicking my ass… can’t believe Tulo is kicking my ass in fantasy baseball…

          3. njstuckintx

I’m in 3 leagues. have him in all 3 leagues. what a windfall. Tulo is the #1 pick in my mind now. Then again, he was only facing the Met’s pitching…

And on a side note, I’ve seen more HR’s jacked in Citi-field than I can remember. Maybe it’s not so much the dimensions and walls of the stadium, but rather the players we are putting out there…

          4. stickguy

it’s the Mets. the dude was hitting .200 coming into the series!

          5. kistics

That’s a good point. I was thinking the same thing. It doesn’t seem like the opposing hitters have any problem hitting HRs in Citi Field. It’s just the Mets players that can’t hit HRs.

      2. kistics

What I meant was that the Rockies had better pitching & hitting and defense. They were just better in all aspects of the game.
