Last night I had the strangest dream – or maybe it was a nightmare.
I had dreamt that I was in the Mets dug out before a game but there were only two people there besides myself. Those two carbon based life forms were none other than Jerry Manuel and Willie Randolph ! They both gave me this gloating type of smirk. They didn’t say a word, but they’re expressions spoke volumes. It was like for some reason they both felt vindicated by the slow start of the season by the club they formerly helmed.
Needless to say I woke up in a cold sweat , and I tried as hard as I could to decipher this nocturnal sitcom that was playing in my dream scape.
I admit I am none to thrilled by the brain farts as well as the lapse of basic fundamentals that have peppered the early going of this season. I am leery of the lack of clutch hitting when there are runners in scoring position. I am appalled that it seems like the bullpen needs map quest to find the strike zone. But I as of yet have doubted this team – consciously at least.
So I ask you my readers, What do you take from my dream. Is it the just a ordinary dream that comes by every now and then to screw with sleep patterns – or is it the preomonition of a history of a time to come ?
And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!
Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today include :
Reserve catcher for the ’82 Mets, Bruce Bochy is 57 (1955) . He is currently the manager of the World Champion San Francisco Giants.
Utility man from the ’94 season, Fernando Vina is 42 (1969) . After Vina left the Mets, he became a offensive force for the Brewers. He later admitted to the usage of PEDs.
Middle reliever from the ’09 season, Ken Takahashi is 42(1969) . He was pretty a pretty decent arm in a very over taxed bullpen. The Mets ended up releasing him after the season ended.
Mo Vaughn and Carlos Delgado are planning on forming a comedy act . They plan on calling themselves The Cat and the Hungry Hippo” !!

I think by now most of us realize the failures in ’07-’10 had very little to do with the manager and much more to do with the talent level on the team and injuries.
However, since the manager is usually the fall guy – and the first one at that – it was no surprise Willie was fired and Jerry wasn’t renewed. Willie made a few off field mistakes with his comments to the media, probably because of his inexperience as manager. Jerry….he wore out his welcome in 09.
I’m just hoping even with what looks to be shaping up as a non contending team, TC can raise the level of play to at least equal what major league ball players should look like out there. Enough with the sloppy play and mental mistakes, please.

Ugh….CY on DL and Misch on his way up.
They could have gone 2 ways with this. Could have taken the chance to run Young out there tomorrow and see how long he could go, crossing their fingers the BP wouldn’t be overly used today. Or…bite the bullet with Young missing a couple of starts and going with a spot starter. I’m a bit surprised it’s Misch and not Gee though.
