Disappointing for Young, but hopefully he won’t miss any more than 15 days.
My guess is Misch pitches out of the bullpen today, possibly piggy backing D.J. if he can’t go any more than 4 innings and then getting dfa’d with Gee pitching Sunday on regular rest and getting another turn or two until Young is back.

I was wondering why Misch was here and not Gee.
So if Gee is recalled for tomorrow, someone has to go down. Iggy?
Since I see a tweet a few minutes ago that Misch was in the clubhouse, this decision was probably made last night. Or I guess since it’s Buffalo could have been done early this morning.
If they wait to see how both games go today before recalling Gee, I guess worst case scenario is he can take a cab down from Buffalo like Iggy did last year.
Probably safer than worry about if the only scheduled flight will be on time.

I believe Misch was already in Atlanta last night after he got bumped from his scheduled start Thursday night. Igarashi appears to be the guy to go down for Gee, although could be Misch if he struggles.

That’s right. I forgot they weren’t in NY but rather Atlanta.

I’m willing to bet if the BP wasn’t so taxed and we weren’t playing two DHs in a row, Young would have made this scheduled start.
Oh well, I suppose going the cautious route and using a spot start for a game or two right now isn’t the worse thing.

Being the only starting pitcher who’s actually been worth a damn, it’s a shame to see it happen. I didn’t think it would happen this quickly. Just has the feeling of impending doom, and I wish I could shake that feeling. Well, should make for some interesting commentary from Keith.

CEETAR??
How many games was Young going to start?
25? 30? 60?
Is his tiny sample in 2011 reflective of his career?
No, I am an idiot.

New ways to win daily.
We hold the opposition to 6 hits, but 4 runs via the long ball.
Meanwhile, we only score 2 on the same 6 hits.
Bobby O: ‘the pitching has just been awful this year. I’ve never seen so many long balls on horrible execution like I’ve seen this year’.

In a grotesque sort of way the Mets have a chance at an accomplishment that I have rarely seen in all my years of following baseball. They can lose two doubleheaders in the same week.
If this team played crisp, heads-up baseball and still lost I could follow them and enjoy watching the development of the kids. But I find it difficult observing slip-shod baseball and with the beckoning of the mlb extra innings package I wonder just how long I will be able to tolerate following this team if they continue to play in this manner. In all my years of passionately rooting for this team I have seen too many years of this type of baseball. I want to see an organization that preaches from the lowest levels the virtue of playing baseball the correct way and I want to see an organization that will not tolerate lackadaisical, error laden baseball.

From Adam Rubin:
“A Mets loss in the nightcap also would mean being swept in consecutive doubleheaders. There is precedent for that: St. Louis swept the Mets in doubleheaders on back-to-day days in September 1982.”

How many times can Misch go through the waivers? I don’t see him back in Buffalo.

It’s not like someone is going to go, “well, the first 15 times he was available, we weren’t sure, BUT NOW!!!! we want us some Misch”. He’ll go down like the Titanic and be resurrected when Cap hits’ the DL…

it seems that if not claimed, he will get paid a lot more at Buff than any other MiL team. so if he clears, he will go.

why would he get paid a lot more at Buff?

not sure of the details, but others have said that due to the nature of the pay rules, if you are up with a team the minimum salary in the minor is higher (or it might be having been with the team the year before). In any case, if he takes FA instead of the assignment, he would effectively be starting over at minimum wage elsewhere.

IDK, kistics. but this is pretty ugly.
Worst start in franchise history other than ’62 and ’64.
Longest losing streak since ’04.
I just had to laugh in the post game after the 2nd game. Bobby O was his usual blunt self but he had a mini rant on RAs interview during the game in the dugout about his off season plans in Jan. Said with the way they’re pitching/playing right now, don’t want to hear about anyone’s plans for the winter.
Really…I had no problem with anything else Bobby O was calling this team out for but that interview wasn’t a blip on my radar.

Right now this team has the worst record in NL. This team is the worst team in NL… worse than the Pirates, Astros, DBacks and definitely worse than the Nats…
Where do they go from here? How do they get back? Can they even bounce back?

I don’t know. I’ve got nothing.
We’ve seen them get beat with poor defense and mental mistakes.
We’ve seen them get beat when the BP coughs up a lead.
We’ve seen them get beat b/c the starters gave it up before it practically started or were so bad they exited before pitching 6.
We’ve seen them get beat when the pitching limited the opposition offense but they couldn’t buy a hit so it didn’t matter.
Not sure there are any more ways to lose a ball game than that.
defense – check
pitching – check
offense – check

I wouldn’t go that far. The teams they’ve played: Phils, Rockies, Braves are all in the upper half of the league, all might possibly be playoff teams this year, so it’s hard to say they’re worse than the Pirates and Astros and such. Problem is that confidence is real low and it’s gonna make it tougher to crawl out.

What I’d like to know is how this all got this bad this fast. This isn’t just the loss of our ace for the year. This is the perfect storm of starting the season with:
- Bay on the DL
- Pagan in a slump
- Paulino on the DL
- Pelf going backwards
- RA Dickey not picking up where he left off
- Outside of Beato, the BP generally bad
- Starters generally not getting out of the 5th or 6th
- Emaus’s bat non existent
- No clutch hitting
I can’t believe we might go from discussing all season what holes might need to be plugged to discussing if we’ll wind up with the worst record so we can get the 1st draft pick.

I was watching the Cardinals beat the Dodgers and hearing Vin Scully’s voice once more reminded me of my days as a boy in Brooklyn watching the Dodgers on Channel 9( when not going to Ebbets Field). Perhaps Fred Wilpon can garner some happiness if he subscribes to the mlb extra innings package and listens to Vin Scully while Fred closes his eyes and pretends it’s the Brooklyn Dodgers he’s listening to and that he owns the Brooklyn Dodgers. Perhaps Fred can make us all happy by selling the Mets and purchasing the Dodgers.
