It was a rough night on the farm, salvaged only by the B-Mets.
Rochester at Buffalo PPD
Only in New York! At least upstate New York. This game was cancelled early in the day because of the threat of snow and freezing temperatures. They’ll try to play two today.
Binghamton 6, Portland 5
Brandon Moore was even worse in his second start than in his first, once again failing to get out of the 5th; this time giving up 4 runs on 6 hits. Ricky Brooks got out of the 5th and then pitched a scoreless 6th. Eric Niesen and Erik Turgeon both pitched a scoreless inning, before John Lujan got his 3rd save of the year despite giving up a run on 3 hits. Josh Satin led the offensive charge in the win hitting a 3-run 2-out homer in the 3rd inning; Satin also hit a double as well. Kai Gronauer and Jesus Feliciano also had 2 hits each, with Feliciano driving in 2 runs from the leadoff spot.
Fort Myers 6, St. Lucie 4
The winning streak is over in St. Lucie, with all the blame going to the defense. Despite not making it out of the 6th, Jeurys Familia had another strong effort, surrendering just 1 unearned run on 4 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 4. An error by each middle infielder in the 7th led to 4 more unearned runs all charged to Michael Powers who took the loss. Ronny Paulino got his first hit and RBI of his season, but is still hitting below .100. Matt Den Dekker and Jefry Marte had 2 hits each, but with only 6 hits total, the Mets couldn’t overcome 3 errors, as well as hitless games from Cesar Puello, Wilmer Flores, and Pedro Zapata.
Greenville 5, Savannah 1
Not a great effort from Greg Peavey, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits and only lasting 4 innings; however, he did strike out 5 and walk no one. Luis Rojas gave up 3 more runs out of the bullpen, making a comeback impossible. Shockingly, Sam Honeck had 2 more hits, including a double to keep his average at an even .500. Aderlin Rodriguez was also 2-4 with a double, which is hopefully a sign of him breaking out of his early season slump. However, the other seven guys in the lineup combined for 3 hits and 10 strikeouts, so the Gnats were only able to get 1 run on the board.
