First off, Happy Easter to all of you that observe this holiday. For this special holiday, 2 questions for the price of one(which of course, is totally free!)
How many home runs do you think Ike Davis is good for this year?
Do you think MLB is going to eventually take over Mets? Why or why not?

Ike on HRs: I really have no idea. His college playing days didn’t really indicate he was a power HR hitter. His early professional numbers didn’t indicate that either. He comes up last year after about a month and hits 19. So with a full season this year….25?
Although if he’s just getting better and better I can envision 30+.
No, I don’t think MLB will take over the Mets. At least not based on the information we all have to date. If that happens, it really has to get so much worse than it is now. For whatever reason, Selig believed McCourt never had the best interest of that team in mind and was using Dodger profit to fund his lavish lifestyle. Plus….I think he just plain cannot stand McCourt and wants him out.
With the Wilpons it’s a bit different. First they’ve been friends for like 30 years. Second, even though one could make an argument that the Wilpons did violate MLB regulations by some extent, I don’t think Selig believes it’s quite as egregious as what McCourt did.
I see one of two scenarios: either the Wilpons get enough money from investors to keep Sterling Mets afloat for the short run, or they wind up having to sell the team. They might wind up selling the team one way or another. I believe it’s all going to depend on much money they lose in the lawsuit.
Either way, I believe Selig is going to support the Wilpons fully with either decision, or go as far as he possibly can with that support.

what she said.
Ike could hit the 30 mark this year even, and it would not surprise me.

my opinion – 25 to 30 dingers and no MLB will not take over the Mets because the Mets are in the process of selling a minority interest in the team. If anything MLB may force the Wilpons to sell their controlling interest if their finances become even more dire.

I expect Ike to hit around .270/360 with 24-28 HR and 85-90 RBI and with his defense thats enough to keep him around for the next 8-10 years or so

First: Ike = 25HRs
Second: MLB Takeover of Mets
My personal opinion is that MLB already took over the Mets last fall but it was a “soft takeover” so the Wilpon’s could save face and the franchise value could remain higher than if MLB out and out took over the franchise. Everyone knows Selig and Wilpon are tighter than most owners and having one of Selig’s right hand men in Alderson installed was about as quiet away to have MLB influence and right the Mets ship without having to take it over publicly. Comparing the Mets and Dodger situations now MLB can sit back and say we have no reason to be interested in taking over Mets ownershp since we’re confident with Sandy and his team in there that they’ll get it right. When the news with the Dodger’s broke earlier this week I was like, OK well that’s interesting but we were first. Also, I wondered would MLB really have taken over if the horrible fan beating episode didn’t take place. It’s one thing to be losing money but it’s an entirely different deal to have the ballpark perceived as an unsafe environment for family entertainment. Combine that with the Dodger finance situation and something had to be done.

For Ike, I’ll say 29 this year. In the years to come, I see him as a 30-35 HR guy.
As for ownership, no I don’t see MLB getting involved, other than the way that Hazmet stated, with the ‘already involved’ conspiracy theory. Wouldn’t put it past Selig.
