Livan Cracks The Mets Streak. Mets Fall to Nats 4-3.

In a battle of #1 vs #5 Chris Capuano took on Nats #1 Livan Hernandez.  The same Livan that Chris is basically taking the place of.  Livan was good enough to keep the Mets in check for 8 innings giving up only 3 runs, 7 hits, 1 BB and 5 K’s.  The Mets pen kept them in the game with 2.1 innings of shutout, no hit ball but the Come Back Kids did not have another in them.  Storen was able to close the door after giving up a 2 out single to Josh Thole (3-4) who was replaced by Hu Hu who stole 2nd but could not advance any further due to a Willie Harris strike out to end the game.

Mets offensive highlights: Not many

The first two runs came on classic small ball plays.  Get’em on get’em over get’em in.  One in the 4th inning on a David Wright ground out plating Reyes who hit a double to lead off the inning.  Another in the 6th inning on a Reyes sac-fly set up by Davis and Thole singles followed by a error on a bunt by Pudge.

The Mets would manage to earn one more run with a one out single from Carlos Beltran followed by a 2 out double from Ike Davis scoring Beltran.

Mets Pitching Highlights:

Pedro Beato is still proving to be a steal by Sandy Alderson logging 2 more scoreless innings bringing his total up to 14 innings of shutout ball.  Beato has only walked 3 batters during that span and allowed 7 hits.

Next game: Mets at Phillies 7:05

Just wasn’t our night. Even so, this is a game we could have won, if not for one of several things that the Mets could have done better, starting with Cap and ending with Harris.

And why can we never seem to hit Livian?

BTW, when is Pagan coming back? I have more confidence he’ll get it together quicker than anyone else we’ve been trotting out there to replace him.

Oh well, heading to Philly and opposing a rookie tomorrow night with Pelf on the mound. This match-up could be anyone’s guess.

I like the “start a new streak this weekend” plan myself.

And I have no clue what to expect tomorrow, but if forced to choose, I would bet the over!
