Post Game: Exercise In Futility

So…thats what an ace looks like. Mets got front row seats to a show of dominance tonight, striking out 12 times through 7 shout out innings. To his credit, Chris Capuano kept the game scoreless through 6 innings but didnt know that Pat Burrell carried the label of “Met Killer” and cashed in on the well earned nick name with an RBI single in the 6th to put the Giants in front. For s***s and giggles, Mike Fontenot added an RBI single in the 7th inning. In true Met fashion, the only threat came in the bottom of the 6th where down by one, Carlos Beltran lead off with a single. Ike Davis battled and managed to get a single up the middle to put runners on the corners with 0 out. Naturally, Tim would get Ronny Paulino to pop out in foul ground and get the next two hitters to strike out. For the second time in a row, the Mets were in prime position to tie the game with a sac fly and tanked. Mets have lost 5 of their last 6 and are 8.5 games out of the division. At least Jose Reyes got a peak at a potential suitor for his talents in July.

As good as Lincecom is, I’m not sure this actually had anything to do with facing the 2 time CY award winner. We couldn’t muster much offense or timely hits either last week in Philly against some rookie scrub or against Houston who isn’t much better than us right now.. So what was the excuse those games?

Wasn’t exactly Capuano’s fault either. He put up a quality start only giving up the 2 runs in over 6 innings.
    .
Get 6 runs, give up 7. Get shutout, only give up 2 runs.
Just an exercise in futility right now.

On another note, have to love the media. According to Sabean, he hasn’t talked to Anderson since January and strongly dismissed the Jose Reyes trade rumors.
So are we goingt to be bombarded with the Reyes trade rumors and speculation for every new series played from now until one is really true?
    Bah….

As two people that have followed this club for many, many losing years we know that your description is the prime definition of a losing franchise. Furthermore, as in the past I will stay with this team unless the ownership’s mechanism of rebuilding is less about developing a quality franchise and more about targeting financial problems that allow the ownership to avoid selling the franchise while basically constructing the Pittsburgh Pirates East (i.e. east of the Allegheny Plateau ).

Hey, at least the Pirates fired just about all of their FO and came up with a 5 year plan for success. If I’m not mistaken, they’re coming up close to the end of that 5 years and so far, doesn’t look like they’re climbing out of the cellar anytime soon.

Pull the plug. The season is over. Time to get an early start on planning for the future!

too bad the other teams that they need for much of the work probably aren’t interested in playing along yet.
