I see Pagan back to NY for further tests due to continued pain.
Not that I’m surprised b/c the average is usually a month for oblique injuries but….I was so hoping to see at least 1 of not 2 of the three Hs gone when Pagan returned.

I say they can still cut Hu and bring up a bat with some semblance of pop. Maybe Evans?

Well, that would be the logic choice, even though I understand Evans has been struggling down there.
Outside of Evans, Duda maybe – either one at least presents the threat of some offense, something Hu does not.
Can’t see bringing FMart up if he’s going to sit on the bench most nights. If he stays healthy till July, maybe he comes up when Beltran is traded?

2 triples and a double. Worth the re-sign. Also, I think worth a top prospect + some, even in half a year rental.

OK, I’ll put this on here, even though the thought makes me sick to my stomach.
This is from the Detroit News, Lynn Henning:
— As mentioned last week, David Wright looks as if he will be available and the Tigers almost certainly will be among those clubs inquiring. The New York Mets third baseman is only 28 and has the bat, as well as the glove, to make third base an All-Star position in Detroit.
Questions: Can the Tigers make an offer healthy enough to attract the Mets? Probably, although it will be steep: a top-notch pitching prospect or two (Andy Oliver, Charlie Furbush, Casey Crosby, Lester Oliveros, etc., would be candidates), plus another hitting prospect, and maybe a player or two from the current roster. Down the road, fans will groan when a couple of those guys become stars. Can the Tigers take on the $45 million Wright is promised through 2013 (if a club option is picked up)? Again, most likely, when the team’s payroll is slightly north of $100 million.
Would the Tigers be able to package Inge in any such deal? Perhaps, with payroll considerations. And would Inge agree to any such deal as a 5-and-10 man (10 years in the big leagues, five or more with the same club?). That’s a bridge best crossed when the Tigers get there.
But if you’re looking for a bat that could put the Tigers in command of a division waiting for a dominant team, Wright could be a game-changer.

If Wright brings you back 2 Pitching prospects + some others, it might fast forward this team to getting back on track. Still makes me want to puke just thinking about it. I want a couple of Met lifers on this team, Reyes and Wright being the preferred 2!

I’m in agreement here.
It’s not only what Wright is on the field, it’s how he represents the organization as well. Youngest ballplayer ever to start a charity using his name and it’s not just his name he gave but much of his time as well.
It’s the stories we read like last time they were in Atlanta where he just started playing catch with the kids along the foul line and kept it up for some 20 minutes or so.
It’s willing to be available for the press after every game – even if you’re one of the fans who doesn’t ever like what he had to say.
Mets trade Wright and Reyes I’d have to think they’ll lose many fans in the short term. It’s not just about wins and losses all the time. It is the emotional attachment at times with the team and it’s ball players.

Boy oh boy there are so many ways to look at this trading either Wright or Reyes debate. I’ve really tried not to think much about it and just enjoy having them on the roster as in my pollyanna world both would be Met lifers. Unfortunately, I don’t think the Mets brass is going to worry about the fans they may lose in the short term since nobody’s showing up at the park anyway. The empty seats at Citi speak louder than the perception of fans emotions since that’s a true cash register translation of their emotions.
The talking heads in the media talk and talk about how the Mets need to unload these guys and break it down but there are some things that are unspoken that are factors. First and foremost to me is: If you trade Wright the guy next in line to be the face of the organization is Ike Davis. Is the Mets brass really going to put Ike under that added pressure in his second year? You know to be the guy that reporters encircle after every game. I don’t think they will since they don’t want to give Ike any more to handle than being Ike and becoming a stud power hitting first baseman. As for Reyes, Sandy and crew have been witnessing first hand what Jose brings to the table when he’s right this week. His skill set is unique and while I still think they may trade him. I could just as easily see them use the new cash infusion from a new partner to make Jose priority one in locking up. UltiMETly, I don’t think they want to leave Ike with no talent around him. At least with Wright and Bay they have a couple of names around him and if you can re-up Jose, if he stays healthy, all the better. Yeah, I wen there with the health again…

Ultimately, Wright and Reyes mean little to me is there’s no influx of pitching. I’d rather watch a team develop into a winner over a few years than watch the garbage we’ve had the past few years. If they start winning, the fans will find new players to get emotionally attached to.

Per Toby Hyde, Jose is the best SS in baseball right now, according to WAR.
“…don’t ask me whether the Mets should trade Jose and what prospects they could get for him. From a baseball perspective, something like 27 teams in baseball should want Jose Reyes. And yes, I realize money considerations matter. That’s not my point. There’s no way to trade the best player in baseball at his position and expect to get anything like a fair return back for him..”
My sentiments exactly. Especially for a 1/2 year rental.

If no one is willing to give up enough for him by the deadline, they could always just offer him arb at the end of the year and get some draft picks. I’d take that, too. Regardless what happens, the Mets need so much pitching that I just don’t see extending Reyes to be all that meaningful if the problem doesn’t get fixed sooner rather than later.

well, keep in mind the primary focus right now (in the next year or so) is not the long suffer old time fans (most of home won’t give up anyway). It it for the Wilpons to survive with their majority ownership stake intact.
Hey, might not be my goal, or yours, but from the people that count for making the decisions, that is the primary, overriding, only important mission.
now, if keeping wright helps that, they will. but if he needs to go in a cost slashing plan, See Ya!
besides, every player moves on eventually. some cause a stir when they leave (Seaver), some just fade away (Piazza), but they all go and fans move onto the next wave.

I could not agree with you more and this scares the heck out of me.

Look at it from a positive viewpoint. If they clean house late enough in the season then there won’t be enough games left on the schedule for them to lose 100 games. But there’s always next year.

Reyes was a blast from the past last night and what was up with Murph’s Jeter impression? Doesn’t he know he’s not supposed to do those things? Nice to have a good win with no drama.
