Mike Pelfrey took the mound tonight determined to end the Mets bad streak of games against the Colorado Rockies. Jason Hammel would stand in his way.
The Mets staked Pelfrey two runs in the top of the first when Jose Reyes led off the game with a double and was pushed to third on an Murphy base hit. With runners on the corners, Wright would strike out and Ike Davis would come through with a two RBI base hit up the middle.
The lead would hold until Pelfrey would give up back to back home runs to Tulowitzki and Smith.
It would be the bottom of the order that would put the Mets up for good. Paulino and Pridie would be on base when Mike Pelfrey hit a double into the gap for a two RBI hit. It would be a rain delay that would end Pelfreys night but overall, he looked real good. He gave up only 1 walk and struck out 2, gave up 6 hits and induced a nice combination of ground and fly outs.
After a 50 minute rain delay, Together, Isringhausen and Byrdak would come in a pitch a scoreless 8th. K-Rod pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
The final score Mets 4 Rockies 3
The only bad news is that Ike Davis collided with David Wright on a pop up and was forced to leave the game with a strained calf.
Side Notes: Mike Pelfrey was really dealing tonight. He pitched 6 2/3 innings tonight. David Wright needs a day off in the worst way. I really hope Ike Davis is ok. Do we really need to trade Jose Reyes? Did you see the ground crew guy get caught under the tarp?
