Ike On 15-Day DL; FMart To Join Team In Denver

According to various sources, Ike Davis has officially been placed on the 15-Day DL with a bone bruise.

Fernando Martinez will join the team in Denver.

It is sadly fitting that the team’s best run-producer and seemingly the only Met who is not allergic to getting base hits with men in scoring position will now be out for at least two weeks.

Today’s lineup is indeed frightening, with Harris at 3B, Turner at 2B, and Pridie in CF.

If Jason Bay is going to wake up, today would be a fine time for the alarm to go off.

I’m starting to think this franchises cursed – damn you Mike Cubbage !!!

I actually, for the first time in my life, am seriously considering the possibility of a curse being real.

      1. Dirtysanchez

What do you think the curse could be on? When did it start?

        1. kingman 26

Started on Beltran’s strike three in 2006; I have actually been thinking of trying to develop this into a semi-serious post.

Omar made a deal with the devil, and somehow it got messed up. He made the deal to win it all in 2006, and pay the price for years afterwards….but someone messed it up.

Endy’s catch, the anemic Tigers waiting in the WS–it was all set up!

Maybe Wainwright was supposed to throw a fastball….maybe Beltran was supposed to swing but missed the meeting about all of this because he thought it was a visit to Walter Reed….who knows.

But seriously, what can be next? Reyes eats some fried flounder and the thyroid issue returns? KRod beats up his grandpa and gets locked up?

          1. Dirtysanchez

I too am wondering if the team is cursed. Would be an interesting post

          2. kingman 26

I am going to flesh it out; it could be fun and funny.

On September 12, 2007 I picked up my brand new car at the dealership. I decided that I would transfer my Mets license plate borders to the new car as soon as they clinched the NL East. After beating the Braves that night, the Mets were 7 games up with 17 to play… I’m almost superstitious enough to blame my overconfidence for all of this. :)

          4. kingman 26

            It was YOU!!!!!

          5. darknova306

Hehe. Think I’m gonna search for those license plate borders so I can try to break the curse by mounting them on the car. Things are getting ridiculous with this team right now…

September of ’07.. I entered my email address for Playoff tickets and got selected!! bought the tickets printed them out and neatly put them in an envelope ready to go….

          7. njstuckintx

No, it goes back to 86. The curse went from there. A great team the disintegrated, the 90;s, then to get good, but lose to the yanks of all team, then to suck again, then to get good enough to get everyone’s hopes up only get a proverbial sack punch.

Hopefully curses only last 25 – 30 years or so…

          8. kingman 26

Oh, I am definitely considering this angle as well.

But it ties in with 2006–20th anniversary of 1986?

And hey, that Red Sox curse was 76 years I think….so, we should win again in 2062. I will be 96.

          9. metsfan4decades

            2062 ? LOL, likely I’ll be 6 feet under.

      2. metsfan4decades

        Me too, Kingman.
I never put much stock in that ‘curse’ thing, even in ’09.
I’m starting to rethink my mindset on that.

        1. kingman 26

The thing that really makes it almost seem real to me is that things are going to get worse!

The damn Nats are .500 and have Strasburg and Harper. The Braves’ pitching is reloaded. The Marlins are the damn Marlins, and their scouts right now clearly are somewhere identifying the next Hanley and Josh Johnson, and we have NOTHING!

          1. Dirtysanchez

we have ike…I believe he leads NL east 1b men in average or RBI’s.

          2. kistics

Howard has more RBIs and Gabby is hitting .336… But Ike is #2 in both categories..

          3. metsfan4decades

Well, not sure I agree with ‘nothing’ as we do have the likes of Harvey, Familla, Flores and some others down there. But most are years away.

          4. njstuckintx

Well, if that is the case, it’s time to drop the big one. Drop the A(lderson) Bomb. Restock the shelves.

          5. kingman 26

To save the village, we must destroy it.

  2. Dirtysanchez

Mighty big IF…especially since our biggest run producer is gone to offer protection in the lineup. They gotta make a decision on this hu and harris nightmare…they both suck

  3. tkfj2

Harris at 3rd is truly frightening. I don’t mind Turner, but he is not an everyday player.

Have to make do. Ubaldo is going to make us look silly.

  4. metsfan4decades

The minute I saw Ike limping back to first base the other night, I knew this was very likely.

    Damn.

  5. tkfj2

Who wants to bet that Ike is out for a month at least?

I bet KB is reveling in the news, seeing as he is secretly a Phillies fan.

    1. stickguy

bone bruise, yeah a month at least. could easily go way more than that.

    2. Mr North Jersey

      Whaaaa????

    3. metsfan4decades

It depends on where that bone bruise is.
Bone bruises on major joints that bend a lot – like knees, wrists and elbows – are so much harder to heal. Plus, those usually are the result of lost cartilage that just makes the problem chronic.

But if it’s the type of bone bruise from being hit on a bone – or taking a fall – and doesn’t involve major joints – those can heal relatively quick.

But I hear ya. With this crew, I’ve come to expect the worst.

      KB a Philly fan? LOL.

      1. kistics

It’s gotta be bone bruise around his ankle area…

        1. stickguy

you ever get kicked in the ankle, and get a big sore area from that? Maybe that is what we are looking at. At least it is something that heals.

          1. kingman 26

Ledger reporting “at least” two weeks…..

          2. kistics

no but I did sprain my ankle pretty badly once. It took me a week or so to walk without a limp and couple months to not even think about them. But then I did not really play sports while having sprained ankle..

          3. stickguy

you also didn’t have multiple trainers working on it every day, and have your FT job being getting it back in shape.

Some tylenol, an ace bandage, and a bottle of Jack just isn’t the same kind of treatment plan.

          4. kistics

a bottle of Jack would do the trick here for Ike.

  6. Mr North Jersey

I am disappointed in Ike. He let a softie like Wright place him on the DL?

Say it ain’t so Ike say it ain’t so…

Ike got Nancy Kerrigan’d “Why me?!? Why me?!?

(I figured I’d get a jump on the coming storm of comments thereby diffusing their impact) :-D

    1. stickguy

sad thing is, we would have been much better off if it had been wright getting hurt. At least it would have givenhis back a chance to heal.

      1. Mr North Jersey

MLB is reviewing video of Ike’s injury due to reports that Wright was seen with a “collapsible police baton”.

  7. metsfan4decades

Coincidently, I just happened to read about Morales’ 2nd ankle surgery last night and being lost for 2 years now. All because of some freak accident, not unlike this.

I will really be looking for a woo-woo doctor to remove this curse if I hear Ike and surgery in the same sentence.
