Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
I’m a schizophrenic.
And so am I !

As of late I have been very confused about this Mets team. Are they the team that went on that six game winning streak last month or are they the team that at times looks like they can’t get out of their own way ?
In the last ten games, the Mets have won six games while losing four. The only team in the National League East that has a better record during that stretch is the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets currently are just two games under .500 – tied for last place with the Washington Nationals. The have lost their best run producer ( Ike Davis), as well as their best pitcher ( Chris Young), but for some reason this team has yet to wave the white flag and admit defeat. Yes the Astros are not a good team, but there is no argument that the Rockies are a better team than the Mets.
This team is down right schizophrenic in my opinion, but that is the case with mediocre teams. They at times can wow you by playing up to the level of the league’s best teams, and then be blown out the next day.
I have said this earlier in the season and I stick by my prediction- the Mets will be a slightly above .500 team when the dust settles. The will put up a valiant fight for the Wild Card – yet falter in the end.
I just don’t see this team going quietly into the night – Schizo’s never go quietly !!!
And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!
Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes :
Mets middle reliever from the ’84 season, Dick Tidrow is 64 (1947) .
Mets coach from ’92-’93, Dave LaRoche is 63 (1948) .
Middle reliever from the ’97 season, Takashi Kashiwada is 40 (1971) . Does anyone remember him because I sure as hell don’t !
Starting pitcher from the ’07 campaign, Brian Lawrence is 35 (1976) . In six game starts with the Mets that season, Brian had a record of 1-2 with a .R.A of 6.83. It is no wonder the Mets collapsed down the stretch !
The New York Mets purchased the contract of back up catcher, Jerry May from the Kansas City Royals on May 14, 1973.
The New York Mets signed free agent reserve outfielder, Ced Landrum on May 14, 1993.
Mo Vaughn was arrested when he tried to hijack the prop train at Minute Maid Park. He said that he wanted one of those big oranges and felt that the train was the best way to transport it !!

Mets came back from behind by several runs yesterday, which was a novelty for them lately. We got those runs from some not previously contributing – like Bay, and replacement players stepping up to the plate like Turner, Pridie and FMart. Gee pitched well enough to keep us in the game but…
The big problem with this team right now is starting pitching. It clearly doesn’t match up with most of the NL east staffs and depth is extremely thin. Has Pelf turned the corner and will go on a streak like he had last year pre ASB? Will Dickey step it up now that we’ll be playing in warmer weather? Will Cap continue to pitch decent, keeping the team in the game?
Where we finish I think will have more to do with the SP than anything else. And right now, it’s just too early to predict for me.
I said I thought we’d win more games than last year (how many more, is anyone’s guess) – and I’ll stick by that prediction right now.

The come from behind surprised everyone last night. The Astros fans we like “finally, we play a crappy team we can beat”. Lo and behold… Bay CRUSHED one. Almost cleared the back wall. FMart destroyed one. Wright jacks one. I cheered in disbelief, I must say. And I think there were more Met fans at the game than Astros fans.

Maybe you’re the good luck charm. It I’m not mistaken, you have tickets to all 3 of these games? SWEEP!

Sunday’s tickets fell thru, unfortunately, but as a recent post and a man named after a meal of baked ground beef once said, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

Nice. Here’s hoping there’s more Met fans at Citi that night than Philly fans,

Saw Meatloaf in concert a couple of times, back in the day.

Rusty, if the club were to remain as is then your prediction for a slightly above .500 season could be correct. But if in an attempt to reduce payroll to ensure the Wilpon’s retain a controlling interest in the team coupled with an effort to restock the farm with prospects in return for some of their more talented veterans they hold a fire sale your prediction will fall somewhat short.

I don’t think they will go that far – they know this is a fragile fanbase and it would be suicide to hold a firesale

The fact that the team goes back and forth like that, streaks of being really good and streaks of bumbling around like clowns, means that they’re just not that good a team. All of those streaks will likely average out to around .500, but if someone’s willing to give up a decent package for Beltran, the team will definitely be sub-.500. And if Reyes gets traded mid-season…

Also, we’ve seen this team lack an identity for years now. You don’t know which face is the real Mets? Neither do they, and that’s part of the problem.

Sure the 2011 version of the Mets seems to exhibit the symptom of multiple personalities and Jekyll and Hyde appearances, but make no mistake and be not misled, this franchise has but one face and it is that of Fred Wilpon.
A puppeteer extraordinaire and master of the marionettes, Freddie pulls the strings and dictates the actions and verbal accoutrements that continue to keep the fans and media on their toes and at bay at the same time.
The pronouncements from numerous and varied henchmen such as little Jeff Wilpon and hired professional MLB penny pincher Sandy Alderson have proven both untrue and misleading to say the least.
Familiar terms of “stay the course”, “we’re fine” and “Our personal problems have no bearing on the operation of the ballclub” have been blatant lies as the club has shown no effort in improving upon what was a disaster under the previous regime other than ridding itself of a few faces who neither produced last season nor were expected to produce this year. The token moves from the front office were merely part of the smoke and mirrors that continue to provide distractions from the daily soap opera that is the Mets.
So while the actual play of the team on the field might seem a bit schizophrenic, it is abundantly obvious that this club is simply the public relations buffer for the Wilpon family mess.
I know it gets old but the scenario plays itself out time and again which until the club is forcibly sold or taken over by MLB will continue to be the case.
To this point I really feel that any reputation that Alderson may have built as a bona fide baseball man has become as tarnished as Great Grandma’s Silver plated Urn.
